First responders are trained to push through. To keep going. To carry the weight. 🚨

But signs like trouble sleeping, constant fatigue, anxiety, emotional numbness, flashbacks, hypervigilance, anger, or withdrawing from the people and activities you once loved shouldn’t be ignored.

At the First Responder Support Network, we believe healing is possible. That’s why we offer two six-day retreats designed to help first responders and their families recover from the effects of trauma and post-traumatic stress. ❤️

WCPR (West Coast Post Trauma Retreat) helps first responders recover from work-related trauma and post-traumatic stress injuries through peer support, education, and connection.

SOS (Significant Others and Spouses) retreat is designed specifically for significant others and spouses, providing support, healing, and community for those impacted alongside their loved one.

You don’t have to face it alone. We’re here to help you get back to life.

Imagine your police department is a ship taking on water — slowly sinking because experienced officers are bailing out left and right.

The chiefs are up on deck yelling about a “hiring crisis,” pouring money into flashy recruitment ads, signing bonuses, and new warm bodies to plug the holes.

Meanwhile, the real problem is the massive leak below deck: a retention crisis.

Veterans are jumping ship — burned out from forced overtime, drowning in financial stress, missing family time, and wondering why they’re still grinding after years on the job.

Here’s the hard truth:

If you don’t fix the leak first, the ship will keep sinking no matter how many new sailors you recruit. You’ll train them, spend $100K–$200K+ per officer, and watch them bail out in under 5 years too.

Fix retention first. Treat your current officers like the million-dollar assets they are:

Kill the debt traps

Max the 457(b) and retirement accounts

Build real wealth on a cop’s salary

Give them wellness support so they stay healthy, financially secure, and proud of the badge

Once the leak is plugged and your crew is strong and stable, recruiting becomes easy. Your own officers become your best recruiters — bragging about a department that actually values them.

It’s not rocket science. It’s common sense.

Stop rearranging deck chairs while the ship sinks. Invest in financial wellness programs that keep good cops on board.

Stronger Officers. Safer Communities.

🚨🚨 Serious Motorcycle Accident 🚨🚨

On Tuesday June 2nd, at approximately 1530 hours, the Utica Fire Department along with our law enforcement partners responded to a serious personal injury motorcycle accident within the City of Utica on Route 12N at Route 840.

Prior to the arrival of emergency responders, two courageous bystanders stepped into action and provided critical life-saving care to the injured motorcyclist who had sustained severe traumatic injuries to a leg.

CJ Pumilia, a Registered Nurse at Wynn Hospital and Zach Constas, a Firefighter/EMT with the Yorkville Fire Department quickly assessed the situation and applied a tourniquet to control life-threatening bleeding. Their swift actions and training undoubtedly made a significant difference and may have saved the patient's life.

The Utica Fire Department would like to recognize and thank CJ and Zach for their professionalism, selflessness and willingness to act in a time of crisis. Their actions serve as a reminder of the importance of emergency medical training and the impact that prepared citizens can have during an emergency.

We also extend our thoughts and prayers to the injured motorcyclist and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Great job, CJ and Zach. Your actions exemplify the very best of public service and community commitment.
