This week, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who protect our communities every day.

During National Police Week, we remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty and thank the officers who continue to serve with strength and dedication. 💙

Today, I met with Joey, a senior at Bayside High School and a member of Scouting Troop 205. Joey recently began working on the Citizenship in the Community Eagle-required merit badge, which includes discussing a local issue with a community leader.

We spoke about efforts to prevent dangerous street takeovers in Whitestone… illegal events where drivers block intersections to perform stunts like drifting and donuts. These incidents create serious safety concerns and disrupt quality of life for nearby residents with loud music, speeding cars, and reckless behavior late into the night.

I was happy to answer Joey’s questions and help him learn more about the importance of community involvement and public safety.

Best of luck to him as he continues working toward this important achievement in Scouting!

Where are our fellow leaders?

Not any one of them, nor our mayor, has publicly condemned this violent attack on our Jewish community. Silence in moments like this is unacceptable.

Anti-Semitic protests are continuing to spread throughout our city and are no longer isolated to one area, but happening across all five boroughs. Brooklyn in particular has seen a troubling rise in anti-Semitic demonstrations.

Leadership means speaking up, especially when it’s difficult. The Jewish community deserves solidarity, safety, and unequivocal condemnation of hate and violence.

A 76 year old retired teacher was allegedly thrown down the subway stairs by a repeat offender and who smiled during arraignment.

He had been released from a psych ward the very same day. Now an innocent man has passed from his injuries.

How many more people have to suffer before our leaders take accountability?

Public safety should not be political. Bail reform cannot mean revolving-door justice for violent repeat offenders and race should never determine whether someone is held accountable. Black, white, green, or purple, if you commit a violent crime, there must be consequences.

New Yorkers deserve safety. Period.

Last night, 109 SOL & Q-Team intercepted a vehicle blastin’ loud music from roof-mounted speakers under the Van Wyck Expy & College Point Blvd. 🎶🚫
The vehicle was confiscated and summonses were issued, putting a swift end to the noise pollution. Our neighborhood is a little quieter today! 🚔🔇
