🟣 Leaving an abusive relationship is often a process, not a single decision. Survivors face many barriers, including fear, financial concerns, children, isolation, and threats from their abuser. In fact, it can take several attempts before a survivor is able to leave and stay away safely. The most dangerous time for a victim is often when they are trying to leave.
🔵 These barriers are often why survivors leave and return to the relationship. Going back is NOT a sign of weakness, it is often a result of safety concerns, lack of resources, emotional manipulation, or the hope that things will change.
⚠️ It is important not to tell someone, "You should just leave" or "You need to break up." Abuse is complex, and leaving is not always simple or safe.
👉 Instead, try saying:
💜 I believe you.
💜 I'm here for you.
💜 You don't deserve this.
💜 I know where to get help.
Support, understanding, and connection can make all the difference.

Join our team at the Families Values Thrift Store!

We're looking for a Part-Time Team Member to help us create a positive shopping experience for our amazing customers.

🕒 Up to 32 hours per week
📆 Monday through Saturday availability required
💪 Must be able to lift heavy items at MINIMUM of 40 pounds
💳 Will need a valid driver's licence

Responsibilities include:
🧺 Assisting customers with donations and purchases
📦 Sorting and organizing merchandise
🚛 Moving and lifting furniture or heavy items
🚚 Will need to travel in a work car to and from Tabor City to pick up donations

We're seeking someone who is friendly, dependable, and ready to pitch in wherever needed!

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community 💜

Families First would like to extend a huge shout-out and sincere thank you to our incredible community for your daily donations and ongoing support with our local thrift stores. Because of your generosity, we have been able to provide vouchers and assistance to families who were recently impacted by a devastating apartment complex fire.

As a domestic violence and sexual assault agency, we witness every day how compassion and community support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families facing crisis. Your donations help us respond quickly when emergencies arise and ensure that families have access to essential resources during difficult times.

We are truly grateful for every contribution, large or small. Together, we are helping families rebuild, recover, and move forward with hope.

💜 Employee Spotlight: April Bright-Moore 💜

We are excited to introduce April Bright-Moore, the new Thrift Store Manager at Families Values, our thrift store in Whiteville!

April brings not only a passion for thrifting and finding hidden treasures, but also a deep understanding of the mission behind what we do. As a mother herself, she recognizes the importance of providing hope, stability, and support to those facing difficult circumstances due to domestic violence and / or sexual assault. She understands that every purchase and every donation made through our thrift store helps support the vital domestic violence and sexual assault services Families First provides throughout our community.

April goes the extra mile to make our store shine, even cleaning and washing donated items when needed to ensure they’re ready for a new home. When she’s not helping customers or organizing the perfect thrift find, April enjoys spending time with her children and sharing her love of thrifting with others. Her compassion, creativity, and commitment to serving others make her a wonderful addition to the Families First team.
