We are grateful today to be the recipients of a grant providing several cases of emergency drinking water for our department.

A special thank you to Anheuser-Busch of St. Louis, Missouri, for their commitment to supporting first responders and communities through their partnership with the American Red Cross and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC).

We appreciate organizations that recognize the important role volunteer fire departments play in serving and protecting our communities. Thank you for investing in departments like ours!

An early morning structure fire required equipment and personnel from eight fire departments Sunday morning (today). North Whiteville VFD was called to the home on U.S. 701 Business near the

North Whiteville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a major house fire on Business 701 N, early this morning before dawn.

Departments 17, 16, 6, 3, 15, 12, 13, and 11 responded, with ladder support from Departments 3 and 16.

We are incredibly grateful for the teamwork and assistance from:

Brunswick
Whiteville
Chadbourn
White Marsh
Hallsboro
Tabor City
Williams Township

Large tanker support came from Tabor City and Williams Township, and ladder support came from Brunswick and Hallsboro.

We also extend our appreciation to Columbus County 911 Emergency Center, Columbus County Emergency Management Services, Columbus County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Whiteville Rescue.

It takes many hands to respond to an incident of this size, and we are thankful for every department and agency that showed up to serve.

This weekend we remember the brave men and women who gave everything for the freedoms we often take for granted.

Memorial Day is more than cookouts, flags, and a long weekend.

It’s a reminder that someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, father, mother, or friend laid down their life so we could live ours freely.

Because of their sacrifice…
we gather.
we worship.
we speak freely.
we chase dreams.
we come home safely.

May we never forget the cost of that freedom.
