The Whitewater River Consolidated Fire District was honored to receive funding from the South Bow Cares Grant last November. Through this generous support, we were able to purchase four RKI 4-Gas monitors, eight sets of Vortex binoculars, and additional traffic cones to enhance our emergency response capabilities.

This funding allowed us to place a 4-Gas monitor in each of our engines, the Rescue Squad, and the Chief’s vehicle. We also equipped all of our trucks with binoculars and added traffic cones to our engines, the Rescue Squad, and the Chief’s vehicle.

With the Keystone Pipeline, operated by South Bow, running through the center of Butler County as part of the pipeline system stretching from Canada to the Gulf Coast, these resources greatly improve our pipeline response readiness and overall public safety preparedness.

Last night we had a great joint training with Butler County Rescue Squad, Potwin Fire, and Burns Fire. Crews worked through hands-on extrication scenarios using three vehicles, giving everyone the opportunity to sharpen skills and practice different techniques.

Trainings like this are invaluable—not just for building proficiency with tools and tactics, but for strengthening teamwork and communication between departments. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped make it a productive night. Stay safe!

Mother Nature apparently heard us say that nothing much had changed between forecast updates… so she changed things. And not in a delightful way.

With their 11:30 a.m. update, the Storm Prediction Center felt the need to add a Moderate (4/5) risk area for today’s severe weather threat. And we’re only giving you one guess where that 4/5 ended up parked… yep, right over us (why??). They appear especially worried about both our hail threat and our wind threat. We are being queued up for large-to-giant hail (possibly larger than teacups… which is larger than baseballs) and damaging wind gusts in the 60-80 mph range. But it’s not all doom-and-gloom. They left our tornado threat down in the less-alarming range (still there, but not escalating like the other hazards). Nice of M.N. to show a little restraint… but the rest of that really wasn’t necessary, either.

Kurt Ford's End of Watch was 21 years ago today. His impact remains. Many in the community and here in the sheriff's office can still recall Kurt's sincerity, leadership and contagious smile. His kindness and passion for helping others are emblematic of what we strive to instill in our deputies.
