🚨Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over🚨

Nearly 12,000 lives are lost each year due to drunk driving.

To put that number into perspective, UW-Whitewater Fall 2025 enrollment was just over 12,000 students, which means the number of lives lost to drunk driving in a single year is comparable to the size of our entire campus community.

Drunk driving is preventable. Don't become a statistic, and don't let someone you care about become one.

Did you know that bicycles and scooters are one of the most stolen items on a university campus? Take these steps to keep your property safe!

- Purchase a high-quality bicycle or scooter specific lock and USE IT!!
- Record your property's serial number and take pictures.
- Register your bicycle or scooter with UWWPD!
- Report to UWWPD immediately if your property is stolen.

Special shout-out to our volunteers (mostly UWW students!💜) who assisted us with our active threat response training that was recently hosted on campus! Your participation helped create a realistic training environment where officers could practice decision-making, communication, and coordination under pressure, better preparing us to respond if a critical incident occurs on campus.

Woah, summer flew by! Only two weeks left until classes begin. UWWPD hopes that you enjoyed your summer and are ready for the fall semester.

Not only is the start of the semester upon us, but so is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Labor Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Campaign. It runs from August 19th - September 7th and aims to educate people about the dangers and consequences of drunk driving. Around Labor Day, there is typically an increase in drunk-driving deaths.

Agencies across the country will be taking part in this campaign. Do your part and drive sober - it could save your life, or someone else's.

Meet Twister! 🌪

The UW–Whitewater Police Department is excited to officially introduce our newest four-legged officer, K9 Twister!

Twister is a 2-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix imported from Germany and partnered with Officer Dan Kuehl. Together, this team will serve our campus community through specialized training in explosive detection and tracking, helping to strengthen the safety and security efforts of UWWPD.

On June 1, 2026, Officer Kuehl and Twister earned certification through the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA), marking an important milestone as they begin their service together.

Twister's goofy and outgoing personality makes him truly one of a kind. Whether he's training, working, or looking for attention, he brings energy and enthusiasm wherever he goes. We have no doubt he will continue making an impact both as a working K9 and as an ambassador for UWWPD.

Twister is officially on duty, and we can’t wait to see what this team accomplishes together.

K9 Tilla 😎

Since joining the UW-Whitewater Police Department in 2022 alongside Officer Stuppy, Tilla has served as a Patrol and Narcotics Detection K9. Together, they brought years of experience, dedication, and an unmatched enthusiasm for both work and play.

Born in the Netherlands and bred for police work, Tilla was trained in narcotics detection, tracking, article searches, and apprehension. Throughout his career, he played an important role in investigations, helping locate evidence, recover illegal drugs, and track suspects when his skills were needed most.

But if you asked those who know Tilla best, they would probably tell you that his greatest strength wasn’t just his work ethic—it was his personality.

Tilla never met a stranger. Whether he was attending community events, meeting students on campus, or simply looking for a little extra attention, he had a way of making people smile. His outgoing nature made him a favorite among students, staff, community members, and fellow officers alike.

Tilla also had a special ability to help people feel comfortable during difficult situations. Through countless demonstrations, events, and interactions, he served as an ambassador for UWWPD and helped build positive connections between law enforcement and the community we serve.

For Officer Stuppy, Tilla was much more than a working dog. The two spent years training, responding to calls, and serving together. Their partnership was built on trust, teamwork, and a shared commitment to the job. The bond between a handler and K9 is unlike any other, and the memories they created together will last long beyond retirement.

As Tilla begins this next chapter, he’ll be trading deployments and training days for more time doing the things he loves most which is playing, hiking, boating, and spending time with his family.

Thank you, Tilla, for your service, your loyalty, and the joy you brought to everyone who had the opportunity to meet you. Your impact on UWWPD and our community will not be forgotten.

K9 Truus🔥

After proudly serving UWWPD since 2017, Explosives Detection K9 Truus is hanging up the working dog life and beginning her well-earned retirement.

To know Truus is to know she did absolutely nothing halfway.

She has brought unmatched energy to every deployment, every training, every event, and every day she showed up to work. Saying she loved her job doesn’t even begin to cover it, as there was never a day she didn’t give 100%. Truus worked hard, played hard, and made sure everyone around her knew when she had arrived.

She also made it her personal mission to keep the department on alert. Whether that meant stealing unattended water bottles, conducting surprise inspections of desk drawers, or reminding everyone that no snack, office, or personal space was truly secure.

Behind her big personality was an even bigger work ethic. Along with all the antics, she was an exceptional Explosives Detection K9 who served with focus, determination, and a relentless drive to work.

Throughout her career, Truus had the opportunity to assist numerous other police agencies and communities beyond UWWPD, supporting explosive detection operations and applying her skills wherever needed. Her impact reached far beyond our campus. Together Assistant Chief Servi and Truus built a career that not only they should be incredibly proud of, that we are proud and thankful for all they have done.

Assistant Chief Servi had the privilege of being her partner and experiencing firsthand everything that made Truus special, from the wins, the challenges, the chaos, and the countless moments that made their team unforgettable. The responsibilities of a K9 handler are immense and don't often end when a K9 retires. Truus will continue living her best life with Assistant Chief Servi and will likely make appearances at the police department.

Thank you, Truus, for your years of service, your dedication, your unforgettable personality, and for keeping all of us on our toes since 2017.

Enjoy retirement, Truus. You earned every minute of it.
