It is with sadness that we share the passing of our fellow Legionnaire, Wayne Bentel.

Wayne was a longtime member of the American Legion and remained active in our Post for many years. He played an important role in establishing our Post website and coordinated the annual donation of lap quilts for local veterans. His dedication and willingness to serve will be remembered by all who knew him.

We extend our deepest condolences to Connie and the entire Bentel family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 18, from 1:00–3:00 PM at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville, with a prayer service beginning at 2:30 PM. Burial will take place at a later date at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.

Rest in peace, Wayne. Thank you for your service to our nation, our community, and our Post.

For nearly 40 years, the Starin Park War Memorial has stood as a tribute to Whitewater-area servicemen who gave their lives in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Join us on Saturday, July 4 at 1:00 PM as we rededicate this important community landmark and renew our commitment to remembering the sacrifices it represents.

The ceremony will include military honors provided by American Legion Post 173 and will recognize the legacy of the men whose names are inscribed on the memorial.

🇺🇸 Post 173 is grateful for the incredible volunteers who help make Memorial Day weekend possible.

From the 4-H members, Girl Scouts, VFW Post 5470, Whitewater, WI brothers and sisters, and community volunteers who helped cover Hillside Cemetery in flags for our veterans, to the Legionnaires preparing the old armory for tomorrow’s ceremony, we truly could not do it without all of you.

We are proud to be part of a community that continues to show such care and respect for those who served. Thank you for continuing the traditions that make Whitewater special. ❤️

We hope to see you tomorrow for the Memorial Day Parade and armory program, where we will welcome guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Jonathan Roe.
