ARREST REPORT – DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

On Saturday, September 6, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, Chief Elijah Fite of the Whitewright Police Department conducted a traffic stop on US 69 near Penny Road. The stop was initiated after Chief Fite observed a northbound vehicle driving on the improved shoulder of the highway, a violation of the Texas Transportation Code.

Upon making contact with the vehicle operator, the operator admitted to consuming multiple alcohol beverages prior to operating the vehicle on a public highway. The operator was asked to exit the vehicle. Officer Reynolds arrived on scene shortly thereafter to assist in the investigation.

The operator consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). Based on the results of these tests and the officer’s observations, Officer Reynolds determined there was probable cause to place the driver under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

Following the arrest, the individual was transported to a local hospital for blood draw and then booked into the Grayson County Jail on the following charge:

- Driving While Intoxicated

The Whitewright Police Department remains steadfast and committed to ensuring the safety of all travelers on our highways, as well as the safety of our citizens in our community.

I'm saddened and shocked to hear that a friend and colleague from Garland PD, Tommy Barnes, has passed away from a battle with cancer. I’ve been fortunate enough to know Tommy for almost 20 years. Always a solid guy, always a great police officer. He was the kind of guy that you just didn’t pass by and say “hey,” you would stop and chat for a bit. Tommy never ever wavered from duty, and he was just as motivated and dedicated on his last day as his first. The kind of officer that if he was backing you up, you knew it would be all good. I could go on, but there’s really nothing more I can say. Tommy, you will be missed, and your passing hit me pretty hard. God bless you and your family.
