FIRE REPORT for Jackson Co, Ks 03/26/2026

A 10 percent chance of showers after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

The rangeland fire danger index will be in the extreme category this afternoon.

Extreme fire danger means that fires start quickly...spread furiously and burn intensely. All fires are potentially serious. All outdoor burning should be avoided in areas with extreme fire
danger.

Check with local authorities to ensure burning is allowed before starting a planned burn.

We are NOT allowing burning today please call 785-364-3123 before starting your burn.

Remember that your permits expire Dec 31, 2025. You can pick a new one up at any fire dept in Jackson county but they won't be active until Jan 1.

Thanks to all those that came out to assist in the structure fire this evening in Whiting. We are thankful for all the volunteers and people that showed up! All those tagged plus Jackson County EMS and any others I might have missed.

My friends... I need you to make sure you are paying attention to the weather tomorrow(Wednesday) afternoon.
We have a significant risk of tornadoes tomorrow.
The SPC has mentioned the risk of EF2 - EF5 tornadoes in the area of this map with the black "hatch marks". That's basically a "bulls-eye" over northeast Kansas.
I do not want to scare you. Just be aware of this and ready to take shelter if you need to do so.
There is a significant chance you will have to see my suspenders tomorrow afternoon and evening. This could be a dangerous day tomorrow.
The "peak" of the risk appears to be 3PM to 8PM to me.
Wherever you are, just make sure you have a way to get information on the latest conditions tomorrow.
We will live stream on our web page, here on FB and of course on other social media pages too. We will break in on TV for any tornado warnings and I will stay on with it until the warnings expire. Be alert please. Take a little time today to make sure you are following us and are set to get alerts from our apps and social media.

HIGH FIRE DANGER MONDAY! We can't stress this enough, keep your ci******es in your car Monday (and any day for that matter). Dry Air, Unseasonably Warm Temperatures and Drought Conditions Will Make For Extremely High Fire Danger Monday Afternoon and Evening.

Make sure to come on out to the fire department trunk or treat from 1 pm to 3 pm tomorrow and enjoy some pulled pork sandwiches, beans and chips along with games for the kids and plenty of candy. Hope to see you all there!!
