As grilling season heats up, keep fire safety on the menu! Follow these simple tips to help prevent grill fires and keep your family safe:

✅ Grill outdoors only, never inside, in garages, or under covered areas
✅ Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, railings, and anything that can burn
✅ Clean your grill regularly to remove grease buildup
✅ Never leave a lit grill unattended
✅ Keep children and pets a safe distance away
✅ Check gas grill hoses for leaks before use
✅ Have a fire extinguisher or garden hose nearby

Yet another Whiting resident received FREE smoke detectors installed by the Whiting Fire Department! AGAIN FREE 👨🏻‍🚒

We’ve now installed a TOTAL of 310 free smoke detectors - HELP us build a safer Whiting! 🏠📈

The Whiting Fire Department would like to remind everyone to stay safe while enjoying the water this season!

🦺 Always wear a properly fitted life jacket
📱 Keep a charged phone or marine radio nearby
🚫 Never boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol
⚠️ Check the weather forecast before heading out
🧯 Make sure your boat has proper safety equipment onboard
👀 Stay alert for swimmers, kayakers, and other boats
🌊 Don’t overload your vessel

Whiting Fire Department Union Local 969 would like to inform the citizens of Whiting that on 05/13/2026 it was revealed during an internal review that an individual was misappropriating union funds for personal use. This individual’s actions do not reflect the values of Union Local 969. We remain committed to serving the community through accountability, integrity, and transparency moving forward. An internal investigation remains ongoing. As of 05/18/2026, this individual is no longer a member of Union Local 969 and is no longer employed at the Whiting Fire Department.
