🖼️ Local artist Luz Montiel (Luci) was a featured artist at Whittier Art Gallery earlier this month and we were moved by her pieces created in response to her experience of seeing her mother go through the changes that dementia can bring.

“THE SILHOUETTES. The princesses are a collection I drew that I wanted to personalize the frames as to match the characters. I drew them because my mom’s last year of life with dementia was so hard to see her fading. But what brought her joy was watching Disney princess movies.”

For families, art can be a way to process the emotional and mental weight brought on by the challenges of dementia.

Thank you Luz for giving us a look into this vulnerable time of your life and for sharing the deep love you have for your mom, with the rest of us💙
