Dr. Christal Hames is a board-certified general surgeon with United Regional Physician Group.

Dr. Hames earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, TX, before completing her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. She went on to complete her residency in general surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN, where she developed a strong foundation in both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. From early on, Dr. Hames was drawn to medicine by a desire to help people feel better and by a natural interest in math and science. During her training, she discovered a deep appreciation for the operating room and the unique ability surgery provides to relieve pain and, in many cases, cure disease. That hands-on, results-driven impact ultimately led her to pursue a career in general surgery.

Dr. Hames has a particular interest in robotic and minimally invasive surgery, with clinical focus areas that include gallbladder removal, hernia repair, and bowel resections. She also values the opportunity to care for patients facing breast cancer and approaches each case with seriousness, compassion, and respect for the significant impact surgery can have on a patient’s life. Dr. Hames is known for taking time to explain conditions and treatment options thoroughly, ensuring patients feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout their care journey.
Dr. Hames appreciates the strong sense of community she has found in Wichita Falls and values the friendships and professional relationships she has built with colleagues and neighbors alike.

Congratulations to WCMS physician for joining URPG.
HOWEVER, they forgot to mention most importantly that Kevin Thomas is a proud Coyote too

Join us in welcoming Dr. Kevin Thomas to URPG!

Dr. Kevin Thomas is a board certified general surgeon with United Regional Physician Group.

Dr. Thomas completed his undergraduate education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX, and completed his internship and residency at Saint Paul Hospital in Dallas, TX. A Wichita Falls native, Dr. Thomas comes from a multigenerational family of physicians and is the third of four generations to practice medicine. From an early age, he admired his grandfather’s dedication to caring for others in the community, an influence that played a significant role in his decision to pursue medicine. Knowing by age 12 that he wanted to become a physician, he pursued medicine with a clear sense of purpose and a desire to help people in meaningful, tangible ways.
Dr. Thomas was drawn to surgery for the opportunity to care for patients from start to finish and to see the direct impact of his work. He values the ability to relieve suffering and restore health, finding deep fulfillment in helping patients regain function and quality of life after surgery. With experience that spans the evolution of surgical care, he now focuses on minimally invasive techniques and remains inspired by ongoing advances in medical technology and the complexity of the human body. His approach emphasizes careful listening, individualized care, and strong physician/patient relationships built on trust, empathy, and God.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Thomas enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is actively involved in his church community, where he serves as an elder and teaches Sunday school. He also has a passion for maintaining his land and is an avid car collector, with a special interest in Corvettes kept in show condition. Deeply connected to Wichita Falls, Dr. Thomas values the community’s family centered spirit and is proud to provide advanced, personalized surgical care in the town he calls home.

Dr Blaine Purcell is a very missed physician with WCMS. And what a great way to remember him.

Tonight, Road to College officially kicked off the Dr Blaine Purcell Summer Program. Dr. Purcell was a long time Rotarian and active in so many ways in building a better tomorrow. He was an advocate, a donor and a supporter of this program and leaves a legacy of continuing to inspire students who walk to Road to College. I can think of no greater way to remember him. Rest in peace
