Trained fire investigators recently identified and arrested a suspect responsible for setting multiple fires just a few miles from the location where the Red River Valley Wildfire Academy is held. This incident highlights the importance of ongoing training and interagency cooperation in wildfire prevention and investigation.

The successful outcome was the result of coordination between multiple agencies working together. We extend our appreciation to the Wichita Falls Fire Marshal’s Office for their leadership in this investigation.

Their efforts demonstrate the value of preparedness, training, and partnership in protecting our community.

It looks like the immediate wildfire threat is beginning to ease, but in Texas, one hazard often gives way to another. As we transition into severe weather season, our focus must shift just as quickly.

Texas constantly faces evolving threats — wildfires, severe storms, tornadoes, flooding — and preparedness never takes a season off. Stay disciplined. Stay vigilant. Stay mission-focused.

Our mission remains the same: protect the citizens of the great State of Texas.

The last day of the academy is always bittersweet. The relationships built, the memories made, and the great times shared all come to an end as we head back to our everyday grind. But the connections don’t stop here — if we don’t see you on deployments, we’ll see y’all next year right here at the Red River Valley Wildfire Academy!
