👏 **Employee of the Month | June 2026** 👏

Congratulations to **Paula Robertson** of the **Wichita County Public Defender's Office** on being named Wichita County's Employee of the Month!

Paula was recognized by Chief Public Defender David Bost, who joked, "She's been here longer than I have," before adding that she does a tremendous job "corralling the stray tom cats" and truly holds the office together.

Thank you, Paula, for your years of dedicated service, professionalism, and the steady presence you bring to your team each day. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we appreciate all you do for Wichita County and the residents we serve.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉

**America 250 | Honoring Those Who Served**

As our nation celebrates America's 250th Anniversary, we reflect on two and a half centuries of courage, sacrifice, and service.

From those who fought for our independence in 1776 to the men and women serving in uniform today, every generation has answered the call to defend the freedoms we often take for granted.

Our responsibility to these heroes does not end when they return home.

Here in Wichita County, we are proud to honor that commitment through the outstanding work of our Veteran Service Office.

Every day, our Veterans Service Officers help veterans and their families navigate the often-complex VA claims process, ensuring they receive the disability compensation, pensions, survivor benefits, and other earned benefits they deserve.

Because of the professionalism, knowledge, and compassion of our staff, veterans seek assistance not only from Wichita County, but from across Texas, throughout the United States, and even from overseas.

Our office also proudly serves transitioning service members at Sheppard Air Force Base, helping them establish their VA benefits before leaving active duty so they can begin the next chapter of their lives with confidence.

Every successful claim represents more than just government paperwork completed—it represents a veteran gaining access to healthcare, financial security, and peace of mind.

It means families are strengthened, futures are made more secure, and promises made to those who served are promises kept.

The impact extends throughout our community as well.

The federal benefits our office helps secure are invested right here in Wichita County, supporting local healthcare providers, businesses, housing, and jobs. It is one more way that serving veterans strengthens the entire community.

As we celebrate 250 years of America, let us remember that our nation's story has always been written by ordinary men and women willing to do extraordinary things in service to others.

One of the best ways we can honor their sacrifice is by ensuring they receive the care, respect, and benefits they have earned.

To the dedicated staff of the Wichita County Veteran Service Office—thank you for faithfully carrying out that mission every single day.

May we never forget that while freedom is priceless, it has never been free.

- Mark Beauchamp, County Commissioner | Precinct 1

Wichita County offices will be **closed Friday, July 3**, in observance of **Independence Day**. Regular business hours will resume on **Monday, July 6**.

As you celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with family and friends, we encourage everyone to celebrate safely.

🎆 **Fireworks Safety Reminders**
• Be safe and be smart. Conditions are dry, and windy weather can quickly turn a small spark into a dangerous grass fire.
• Know and follow the laws regarding fireworks within city limits.
• If you're celebrating on private property in rural Wichita County, always have the property owner's permission.
• Fireworks should **never** be discharged from or over a roadway. Keep all fireworks on private property and away from roadways.
• Have a water source readily available before lighting fireworks.
• Before disposing of fireworks, make sure they are completely used and cool to the touch.

Our Volunteer Fire Departments are made up of neighbors who give their time to serve this community. Let's do our part to help keep them at home celebrating with their families—not responding to preventable grass fires.

Have a safe, happy, and memorable Indepen
