The SMC Family Life Center, Inc., a 501©3 organization, has a mission to assist those in need with programs and services that meet the social, emotional, physical, educational and relational needs of families by promoting healthy families in the greater Wichita Metro Area. The goals for the life center is to positively influence the development of healthy and whole families by reducing/eliminating
divorce and dysfunctional family relationships through pre-marital and post-marital counseling, family counseling, mentoring programs for children/youth to increase their literacy and academic success, and life skill development and educational programs to reduce or manage preventable diseases within the Greater Wichita Metro area. The mission for the Education and Curriculum Division is to assist youth and families with programs and services that address the educational needs through academic programs via after-school tutoring and mentoring. The life center board realizes that a quality education, beginning with pre-Kindergarten age children through high school, will significantly reduce truancy, drop-out rates and prepare students for academic success post high-school. Throughout our community there are very few faith-based non-profit organizations offering academic enhancement via after school tutoring, therefore, the life center has developed programming to meet this need. The SMC Family Life Center Tutoring Program’s mission is to provide intervention after-school tutoring for Adams Elementary is to prepare students through rigorous and relevant content. We will prepare students to be academically successful. SMCFLC is committed to offering a quality After-School Program which fosters 21st Century Learning Skills in a technological environment. The SMC Family Life Center, utilizing the school building attached to the worship space of St. Mark Cathedral Church, consists of 12 classrooms, a dining area, and a gymnasium. The life center utilizes four classrooms and one large conference room that is used as a computer lab. Staff
Three retired certified teachers and one that will retired next year, a host of middle and high school volunteers, and seven adult volunteers.
