This is my explanation to Sedgwick County Commission meeting August 26 of the $119,000 in back taxes I discovered in a small sample of industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB) for POET Ethanol Products LLC. There were 112 IRBX exceptions from one 30 year county employee.

Commissioner Howell apologized. City Council said the tax incentives were fair, Sedgwick County said there was no fiscal impact to taxpayers.
They were wrong. $110,000 owed in back taxes by one company.

I noticed something odd about the property tax exemption for Ethanol Products (see June 20 Facebook post). After I persisted, come to find out, county acknowledged this was an input error and fixed it. Taxes of $110,000 were missed. Should have been $1,674,920 in assessed property value, not $719,300. This is why we need oversight on tax incentive programs like IRBs. Thank you Sedgwick County employees for making the correction and acknowledging mistakes were made. Hope you get help for the 112 IRB exemptions needing clean up. City council, quit approving these deals until problems are fixed! City of Wichita- Government Sedgwick County Government

Here is the last open discussion (March 24) where Ron, with Wichita Water Partners, explained the problems with the water plant - unexpected corrosion, damage to the bottom of the mixers exceeding 1/16” (which someone agreed to for steel plate damage requiring mandatory repair). Public Works Director Gary Janzen states the repairs being made caused “pretty significant modifications” from the original design. The PTA (performance testing and acceptance) report was coming next and critical to know if water quality was ok - so why was my KORA for this PTA report denied!

The Boathouse lease is being terminated by America Foundation. If this 99 year lease can be broken, why can't we break the one with Jack Deboer's estate for Waterwalk? There are roughly 75 years left on that lease and the City only makes $1 per year. Terminate it! UPDATE: Deferred until September City Council Meeting.

So does this mean that 3 of the 6 poorly designed water clarifiers have been fixed at the new water plant?
