**UPDATE: 47th Street has been reopened to all traffic.**

CRASH ALERT

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a critical-injury crash near 47th Street South and Spruce, near the Arkansas River bridge.

Two people have been transported to area hospitals. One person is in critical condition, and the other is in serious condition.

47th Street will be CLOSED in both directions while deputies investigate the crash.

Please use alternative routes to allow deputies and emergency crews to safely investigate the crash and work at the scene.

Traffic Alert | 17800 Block W. 117th St. North

Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Sedgwick County Fire District 1 personnel are on scene of a propane tanker truck rollover crash with minor injuries.

Firefighters are working to contain a propane leak. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.

This morning, Sedgwick County Commissioners and County leadership recognized the partnership between the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Support Unit and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Ethan Thimmesch recently completed the Tactical Flight Officer program and is now an official Tactical Flight Officer.

This specialized role strengthens our ability to support law enforcement operations, coordinate with regional partners, and help protect the Sedgwick County community from above.

Congratulations, Deputy Thimmesch! We’re proud of your accomplishment and service to our community.

MEET THE TFO: AIR SUPPORT IN ACTION

When the call comes in and the aircraft goes up, there’s more than a pilot on board making the mission happen.

The Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol Air Support Unit have a unique partnership through the Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) Program. Through that partnership, one of our deputies serves alongside KHP pilots as a Tactical Flight Officer, bringing local knowledge, law enforcement experience, and another critical set of eyes to every mission.

So what does a TFO do once that aircraft leaves the ground?

This video puts you inside the mission and introduces you to the role our deputy plays in helping make the Air Support Unit such an effective resource for Sedgwick County and the surrounding region.

From tracking suspects and coordinating with deputies and officers on the ground to operating specialized equipment and helping crews see the bigger picture from above, the TFO is a vital part of the team.

This is what strong partnerships are all about. We’re proud to join forces with the Kansas Highway Patrol and have one of our own in the aircraft, working alongside KHP to provide this incredible resource to our community.

It’s a partnership built on teamwork, shared resources, and one goal: keeping our communities safe.

Recently, nine members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office completed the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Series and earned the prestigious FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award.

The award recognizes completion of the Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute, and Executive Leadership Institute. These three programs are designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for excellence in law enforcement leadership.

Congratulations to these team members for their commitment to professional development and continued service to the Sedgwick County community.

Early this morning, third shift Deputy Summer Ketcham had the opportunity to assist with a rescue that was a little different from the usual call.

An injured owl had become stuck in the grille of a vehicle in Garden Plain. It seems only fitting that this rescue happened in Garden Plain, home of the Owls.

Deputy Ketcham was able to safely free the owl, and we’re happy to report the rescue was a success. This little one is now receiving some much needed TLC before being turned over to a local bird rescue for rehabilitation.

Sometimes protecting and serving means looking out for our feathered neighbors, too.

TRAFFIC ALERT

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on 47th Street South between Rock and Woodlawn.

47th Street South between Rock and Woodlawn will be closed while emergency crews work the scene. Motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes.

Rock and Woodlawn will remain open.
