Last week, Deputies Gonzalez-Enriquez, Hipolito, Montealvo-Villanueva, and Rodriguez-Umana led a tour of the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility for participants in the Spring 2026 Spanish Citizens Police Academy, in partnership with the Wichita Police Department.

The Spanish Citizens Police Academy is a 13-week program designed to provide community members with an inside look at law enforcement operations and public safety services. Throughout the academy, participants learn about specialized units and investigative processes, tour the forensic laboratory, and visit the Detention Facility to gain a better understanding of the work our deputies, officers, and staff perform every day.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community and share more about the dedication and professionalism behind public safety in Sedgwick County.

Yesterday afternoon, Sheriff Easter, along with members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, joined county and city leaders, first responder partners, and the Wichita Metro Crime Commission, Inc. to Share the Vision for The Pinnacle First Responders Health & Wellness Center.

The Wichita Metro Crime Commission has led this effort to help bring this one-of-a-kind center to life, a place dedicated solely to supporting the health, wellness, and resilience of our First Responder heroes while expanding upon the already robust Sheriff’s Office Health & Wellness Unit.

This center represents our community’s heartfelt “thank you” to our deputies, professional staff, and all first responders who answer the call 24/7, serving and protecting the community every day.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce two national honors awarded this week during the 45th American Jail Association Conference & Jail Expo in Milwaukee.

Sheriff Easter received the Francis R. “Dick” Ford Distinguished Service Award, the highest national honor bestowed by the American Jail Association. The award recognizes a lifetime of professional excellence, exceptional leadership, and a profound commitment to advancing local corrections and jail operations.

Detention Deputy Eric Dietrich was named the American Jail Association Correctional Officer of the Year. This prestigious national honor recognizes an exceptional correctional or detention officer who demonstrates dedication, bravery, and outstanding service to their facility and community.

These recognitions reflect the professionalism, leadership, and commitment demonstrated every day by the members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. Please join us in congratulating Sheriff Easter and Deputy Dietrich on these well-deserved honors.

Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms are expected across our area this afternoon and tonight. The National Weather Service has placed our area under a MODERATE RISK (Level 4 of 5) for severe weather.

Storms may produce:
• Baseball-sized hail
• Damaging winds
• Heavy rainfall
• A few tornadoes, some possibly strong

Storms are expected to develop this afternoon and may form into a line later tonight, increasing the threat for damaging winds and heavy rain.

This morning, members of law enforcement from across Sedgwick County gathered for the Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our communities.

The deputies and officers we remember today answered the call to serve with courage and selflessness, dedicating their lives to protecting others and strengthening the communities they proudly served. Their sacrifice and dedication to duty will always be remembered.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office shares its deepest condolences with the families, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers of our fallen.

To our fallen heroes, you will never be forgotten.

Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day to honor and remember the law enforcement officers who were killed or disabled in the line of duty while serving and protecting their communities.

At 10 a.m., families of fallen Sedgwick County deputies and officers will join Sheriff Easter and Chief Sullivan, along with county and city leaders and community members, for the 2026 Wichita-Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at the Law Enforcement Memorial located at the corner of Central and Main in front of City Hall.

The public is invited to attend as we remember the sacrifices made by those who gave everything in service to others.
