People often wonder what being a CASA volunteer actually looks like day‑to‑day. The truth is it’s meaningful, manageable, and built around real‑life schedules.

Here's a glimpse into what a typical month might include:

🔷Visiting the child
▪️Spending time together: talking, playing, listening, and building trust.

🔷Checking in with adults involved in the child’s life
▪️This might include caregivers, teachers, caseworkers, or therapists to understand how the child is doing in different environments.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: CASA volunteers come from all walks of life. We provide all the training you need.

𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭: Most volunteers spend about 8–12 hours a month advocating for their assigned child (which includes one visit per month and attending all court cases).

Many people hear “CASA volunteer” and imagine they need a legal background or years of experience working with children. The truth is much simpler, and much more human.

A CASA volunteer is a trained community member who shows up consistently for a child in foster care. They get to know the child, listen to their experiences, and advocate for what’s in their best interest.

Here's what that looks like in real life:

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported, especially those navigating the uncertainty of foster care. That’s where CASA of Sedgwick County comes in.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains everyday people to stand beside children in foster care and advocate for their best interests in court.

We’re here to make sure no child moves through the system alone and that their voice is never lost in the process.
