Figuring out who and what makes up your support system is important, especially when you're grieving. It's not just about the people you talk to; it's also about the places where you feel safe, the things that make you smile, and the activities that lift your spirits. So, take some time to think about them. They are there to help you when you need it most.

Some feelings are hard to put into words, but that’s ok. Try a Feelings Color Check-In with your child.

Ask, “What color do you feel like today?”
They can say it, draw it, or just point.
Then gently follow with,
“What is making you feel that color?”

This simple activity can open the door to conversations that might otherwise feel too big or too heavy. No pressure, no right or wrong, just a safe space to share.

The last day of school can bring big feelings. While many are celebrating the end of school, some children may quietly miss someone who won’t be around over the upcoming summer months. Patience, understanding, and comfort can help children cope with their emotions, whatever they may be.

For caregivers navigating grief with children, sometimes the simplest check-ins can open the biggest doors. They create space for children to share both the bright and the heavy, without pressure to have the “right” words. You might be surprised by what comes up when they feel safe enough to share it all. Even a few minutes of connection like this can go a long way.

Try this gentle practice together this month. Ask your child what their rose, bud, and thorn for the day were.

Today is Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, a great moment to talk with your children about their emotions, especially when they're coping with the death of a loved one. Children may not have the words to express their emotions. Coloring a picture or making a memory box can help them share their feelings and experiences.

While everything around us is blooming, some hearts are carrying grief. This season can bring gentle but heavy reminders, Mother’s Day, graduations, anniversaries, or simply the contrast between new beginnings and what feels missing. If that’s you, you’re not alone. There’s no right way to move through grief. Some days may feel lighter, others heavier. Both can exist at the same time.
