Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center works with individuals and communities through comprehensive services and education to create a culture of intolerance for sexual violence and an atmosphere of healing for those impacted by it. Sexual violence violates a person’s trust, autonomy, and safety. At the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, we recognize that sexualized violence occurs anytime someone is forced, manipulated, and/or coerced into any unwanted sexual advances or activity. The range of sexual violence includes rape, child sexual abuse, incest, date and acquaintance rape, statutory rape, marital or partner rape, commercial sexual exploitation, human trafficking, voyeurism, and sexual harassment. The victim advocates at Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center are professionals trained to support sexual assault survivors through the aftermath of a sexual assault. Whether the assault happened an hour ago or 25 years ago, advocates can offer victims information, emotional support, and help finding resources. We provide a wide range of advocacy services. As a survivor of sexual violence, you deserve advocates who will listen to you with compassion. We will listen, and we will believe you. With your permission, your guidance, we will offer all appropriate support. Please remember. You control all of our advocacy services. You’re in charge. Always. We continue to move forward and strive towards our vision of a community free of the occurrence and threat of sexual violence.

Thank you to WSU Student Engagement for inviting us to their WSU Tech’s Trunk or Treat! The WASAC team had a blast putting together our graveyard, using a little Halloween spirit to shine a light on the myths, victim-blaming, shame, and harmful attitudes that keep r**e culture alive.

The primary role of the position is to provide advocacy to survivors of sexual violence, community outreach and education, with a strong focus on building connections with colleges and universities to create safer spaces on campuses.

It's hard to believe a whole month has passed since our We Believe Gala! What an incredible evening of generosity, connection, and community coming together to stand with survivors!

SPOOK-TACULAR SELF-CARE

Self-care isn't one-size-fits-all. Sometimes it's doing something fun, sometimes it's taking a step back, and sometimes it's simply giving yourself permission to do less.

In October we honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month to continue raising awareness, breaking down barriers, and building a community where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered. Sexual violence and domestic violence are deeply interconnected in that they often overlap in the experiences of survivors.

Domestic violence can include physical, emotional, psychological, financial, and sexual abuse. Sexual violence can also occur within intimate relationships, including marriage and dating relationships. Both can involve patterns of power, control, and coercion that impact a survivor's sense of safety, autonomy, and well-being.

Understanding this connection reminds us why collaboration matters. Survivors deserve access to compassionate, trauma-informed support, no matter where their journey begins.
