These City Hall flowers have one setting: dramatic.

If the wind doesn’t blow just right or they miss one sip of water, they droop lower than our eyelids after lunch...

Then the next day they’re standing tall, blooming beautifully, and acting like they didn’t just have a complete emotional breakdown.

To our Parks crews who have been planting and maintaining flowers throughout the community: thank you! To the flowers: we’re going to need a little less drama and a little more photosynthesis. 🌼😏

🎣 It’s National Fishing and Boating Week! 🚤

Celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week by spending some time on the water and enjoying Newton's great outdoor spaces. Cast a line at Sand Creek or Springlake Pond, soak in the scenery, kayak down Sand Creek, and remember to recreate safely around waterways.

No gear? No problem!
With a Newton Public Library card, you can check out 2 fishing poles and a small tackle box, just like a book!
(Just don’t forget your fishing license- it’s required and can be purchased separately and can be found here: https://bit.ly/HarveyCOfishinglicense )

Whether you're a first-timer or a regular, this week is a great chance to:

✅ Connect with nature
✅ Explore local gems in your own community
✅ Unplug, slow down, and enjoy the moment

It is going to be humid tomorrow- enough to melt the makeup off your favorite influencers face kind of humid- so why not start the street slurry?! 😆🫣

The Street Division has scheduled the following streets for slurry seal June 9-11 (dates subject to change):

Tuesday, June 9:
SW 6th (S. Ash to west end)
SW 4th (S. Ash to west end)

Wednesday, June 10:
SE 13th (Old Main to Harrison)
SE 10th (Allison to S. Pine)

Thursday, June 11:
SE 12th (Old Main to Harrison)
SW 9th (S. Poplar to Old Main)

It will be necessary to close scheduled streets during application and drying, usually 8-10 hours. Work will begin at 7 a.m. Affected residents will be notified of the street closing one business day in advance by a notice placed at the front door. Inclement weather can cause delays or rescheduling.

Residents should remove parked vehicles from the street prior to closing and keep vehicle and pedestrian traffic off the new surface until the street reopens. Vehicles remaining in the street may have to be towed at the owner's expense.

We know some citizens are incredibly vested in all things slurry. So in case you are not one of those people and care to learn more information that is way too long for social media, please take a peek here: https://www.newtonkansas.com/Departments/Public-Works/Streets
