This past Wednesday, the Wichita Area Builders Association hosted our 4th annual Build My Future event at Kansas Star Arena. From operating heavy equipment and drones to experiencing carpentry, electrical, insulation, tech, engineering, painting, installation, welding and many other skilled professions, students had the opportunity to discover firsthand the exciting, rewarding careers available in the construction industry as well as emergency services.

Today was extraordinary. Nearly 1,500 area high school students joined us for WABA’s 4th annual Build My Future, where they had the opportunity to explore careers in construction, the skilled trades, and emergency services through hands-on experiences!

But one of the most special moments of the day came when WABA and Liberty Communities made a surprise announcement: a $10,000 donation from WABA’s Home Builders Care Foundation to Ronald McDonald House Wichita! ❤️💛

We are proud to support an organization that provides comfort, care, and a home away from home for families with children receiving medical treatment. RMHW’s mission makes a tremendous difference in our state, and we’re honored to play a part in supporting their work. These funds were raised through a collaborative effort by our members who bought their own personalized co****le board sets, where a portion of their purchase went toward this donated sum—and these co****le boards were assembled during today’s event. This effort epitomized what Build My Future is all about: training construction skills while giving back to the community.

In addition to the donation, Liberty Communities constructed outdoor seating, equipment, and games for Ronald McDonald House Wichita. A special thank you to Eric Gilbert for coming up with this incredible idea to give back, as well as Brice Malloy and their Liberty Communities team for bringing it to life! We also want to recognize WABA’s Home Builders Care Foundation, Mill Creek Lumber, Star Lumber, B&B Lumber, Foundation Building Materials, Josh Holt, Jerry Davis, and everyone who purchased a co****le board or otherwise contributed to making this effort possible.

Build My Future is about investing in the next generation, strengthening our community, and demonstrating the incredible generosity of our local building industry.

We are set up and ready for BUILD MY FUTURE tomorrow at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane! Nearly 1,500 students from 42 area high schools are registered to engage with 51 interactive exhibits from 45 industry professional organizations.

We appreciated U.S. Senator Roger Marshall for stopping by to visit with several members of our Board of Directors. In addition to thanking Sen. Marshall for his support of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, we were able to discuss regulatory burdens in the housing industry, the DIGNITY Act, and inflationary pressures on builders and consumers.

While WABA does not offer endorsements, we do welcome all policymakers and candidates seeking to learn more about the issues affecting the homebuilding industry. The general election is two weeks from TODAY, on November 3rd. Advance voting began in Kansas last week. Our Association encourages all Kansans to inform themselves on the candidates and the issues that impact our businesses and communities prior to voting.

WABA’s staff recently had the opportunity to tour Jordan Spray Insulation’s facility in Wichita to learn more about their operations and the story of this family-owned business.

Founded in 1974, Jordan Insulation has served the Wichita area for more than 50 years, specializing in insulation solutions for residential and commercial construction. Quality insulation helps homeowners lower energy bills, improve comfort, and reduce energy consumption.

Today, the family business is led by Sonnee Jordan-Fisher, granddaughter of founder Stephen Jordan Sr. Sonnee is also an active WABA member, serving on our Build My Future Committee, as well as within our Professional Women in Building Council.

A big thank you to Sonnee and the Jordan Insulation team for welcoming us and sharing their story. We appreciate their longstanding contributions to our local building industry!
