We are a state-wide local union representing city, county and school employees in Wichita, Hutchinson and Salina. Our members include public school classified staff, blue-collar city workers, zookeepers and more! We negotiate contracts, administer labor agreements after they are negotiated (grievances), and engage in political activities including lobbying elected employees and encouraging public employees to be involved in electoral politics to support our communities and the economic welfare of employees and working people generally.

It’s almost Halloween, and we’re back at it again with our annual celebration! Like last year, we’re hosting an indoor trick-or-treat and haunted house appropriate for kids of all ages! So bring your kiddos, grandkids, or neighborhood kids for a fantastically fun time at the haunted union hall! We’ve got it on good authority that there will be PLENTY of candy to go around. Be sure the kids bring their trick-or-treat bags, buckets, or baskets! 🎃👻💀

Today, we proudly observe Workers’ Memorial Day and honor all workers who never made it home from their shifts, and everyone who has been impacted by unsafe working conditions. Kimberly Brewer, President of SEIU Local 513, led the moment of silence and bell ringing in honor of 57 lives lost, at the Workers’ Memorial Day ceremony hosted by the Wichita-Hutchinson Labor Federation last week. Below, you can listen to President Brewer’s reading of “A Prayer for the Fallen” by Reverend Ian Lawton and experience the ringing of the bells.

We hope that you’ll join us in holding the line for safer working conditions, and that you’ll honor past generations of union members who fought tirelessly for workplace protections for all. Most importantly, take a moment to remember the workers we have lost.

We mourn for the dead, and we fight for the living.
