Wowza! That's quite a weather forecast, isn't it? We've decided that we'll change our library open hours to 9 to 1, Tuesday and Saturday, for the next few weeks. We hve good fans, and a portable AC unit, so the library is pleasant during those hours. Thanks for understanding!

Tuesday update: The website is entirely up and running, so the library catalog and image database are fully accessible. Thanks to Mike and the support team at our hosting service!

We still have no A/C, so it's warmish in here. We have a lot of fans and one portable cooling unit, so we'll be open from 10am until the hottest part of the day for the foreseeable future. If you're thinking of coming after noon, you should probably call first to avoid a wasted trip.

We have apparently angered the genealogy gods this week -- most of our website is down and someone stole BOTH A/C units last night. So...you can still access our library catalog at https://catalog.mhgswichita.org/

And, the library will be open in the mornings, but we'll probably close when the building gets hot about noon.

Gary Clark will be giving a presentation on Tuesday, August 11, at 1:30 about preserving your old photos, negatives and films. He'll talk about how to identify what you've got in that old box in the basement, why you should get that box out of the basement sooner rather than later, and how to preserve and digitize everything for the future. Free and open to the public!

Has anyone ever used this site, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History? Looks like they offer interesting historical background classes/articles plus a database of digital images of original letters and things (the database is subscription only, but searching is free).

We have new equipment in Melinda's corner! We can now digitize from vinyl records and standard audio cassettes.

We have been given a January 25, 1976 Wichita Eagle with a bicentennial commemorative section. We don't have a way to store entire newspapers, so we'd like to find a good home for it. First come, first serve! Find us at 1203 N Main today until 4, then Saturday 10-4.

Our volunteers are taking Memorial Weekend off, so the library will be closed on Saturday. We'll see you Tuesday!

Hello! Local author Mack Moore will be at the library to discuss his new memoir "Almost Born on the 4th of July" on Tuesday, May 12, at 1:30. Come hear about writing and publishing a book, and share your stories about growing up in Wichita in the 1960s!

Oh wow! What a great article about a cool project! Thanks Carrie and Jaime!
