Our hearts are with our EMS family following the passing of AMR Central Mississippi EMT and retired Clinton, MS Deputy Fire Chief Tim 'Sprout' Shanks. The SCEMS Honor Guard had the joy of knowing Tim from the National EMS Memorial Service.

Anyone blessed to meet Tim felt the warmth of his smile and laughter. Tim was a dedicated mentor and public servant.

Rest easy, brother.

This past weekend, two of our members had the incredible opportunity to train alongside the Minnesota State EMS Honor Guard during their large-scale training exercise at Camp Ripley.

The event featured a full mock line-of-duty funeral, providing valuable insight into ceremonial structure, precision, and coordination at a high level. The knowledge and perspective gained will help guide future collaboration and discussions as we continue to strengthen the Sedgwick County EMS Honor Guard and champion a greater statewide EMS honor guard initiative here in Kansas.

Our connection with the Minnesota State EMS Honor Guard spans many years, including shared participation at the National EMS Memorial Service. We truly value the ongoing collaboration, the opportunity to learn from one another, and the meaningful relationships that have grown between our members.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Minnesota State EMS Honor Guard for their warm hospitality and to the Kansas EMS Association (KEMSA) for their support, which helped make this opportunity possible.

This year our NEMSMS Honor Guard grew to over 200 personnel! We are very grateful for the support and dedication of all of our volunteers who make the Weekend of Honor a weekend of love and support for the families and loved ones of our fallen.

🇺🇸 Sedgwick County EMS Honor Guard at the National EMS Memorial Service 🇺🇸

This weekend, seven members of the Sedgwick County EMS Honor Guard are proud to stand alongside honor guards from across the country at the National EMS Memorial Service in Washington, D.C.

Each of our members has been assigned to various ceremonial duties throughout the weekend as we pay tribute to the brave EMS providers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

It is our solemn privilege to honor their legacy, support their families, and ensure they are never forgotten.

The ceremony will be live streamed on the National EMS Memorial website and page on Saturday at 4:00 PM Central Time for those who wish to watch and pay their respects from home.

We remember. We honor. We stand together.
