While we humans may not be looking forward to cold temperatures and falling snow, here’s one permanent resident at the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center who welcomes winter weather. Tundra, the Rough-legged hawk, was wintering here in Ohio when a wing injury left her unable to fly. Snowbirds may go south to Florida for the winter, but Rough-legged hawks come south to Ohio and thrive in our winter wonderland.

Visit Tundra at the Wildlife Center Yard at Penitentiary Glen Reservation 9 am to 5 pm any day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. For more information visit goto.lakemetroparks.com/wildlifecenter.

Sassafras and Tulip, our gray foxes, are easily intrigued by the smells and textures of a fur coat someone donated to the Wildlife Center. Daily enrichment and training is vital to maintain during the COVID-19 closure. This allows our Animal Ambassadors to remember their training behaviors and keeps them mentally and physically healthy as well.

The Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center at Penitentiary Glen Reservation is closed to the public through at least May 3.

Wildlife are still important to us, however, we are not able to accept any additional animals until further notice. Find answers to your questions about injured, orphaned or nuisance wildlife at goto.lakemetroparks.com/wildlifecenter.

Bobcat released!

The male bobcat we rehabilitated at the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center at Penitentiary Glen Reservation over the past year developed into an adult, exhibiting all the natural behaviors and survival skills necessary for him to have a prolific life in the wild.

He was successfully released near where he was found in southern Ohio.

The bobcat is growing and getting stronger. He is always curious about the new enrichment added to his enclosure. This encourages his natural behaviors and introduces him to new smells and textures, similar to those he might find in the wild.

A fox kit is a new patient at the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center at Penitentiary Glen Reservation. Staff is caring for this young red fox that was found abandoned, trapped in a window well. She is doing well as we are monitoring her health and growth closely and will eventually be released.

The fox kit is in rehabilitation, not a permanent resident. Human interaction is being kept to a minimum and is not viewable by the public.
