While we humans may not be looking forward to cold temperatures and falling snow, here’s one permanent resident at the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center who welcomes winter weather. Tundra, the Rough-legged hawk, was wintering here in Ohio when a wing injury left her unable to fly. Snowbirds may go south to Florida for the winter, but Rough-legged hawks come south to Ohio and thrive in our winter wonderland.

Visit Tundra at the Wildlife Center Yard at Penitentiary Glen Reservation 9 am to 5 pm any day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. For more information visit goto.lakemetroparks.com/wildlifecenter.

Our Story

Since 1989, the Lake Park Foundation, a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, has enhanced the quality of life in Lake County by preserving land, environment and natural heritage and creating and developing opportunities for conservation, education, recreation and relaxation.

With donor support we create and develop opportunities for conservation, education and recreation for visitors at all parks across Lake County. We work in conjunction with Lake Metroparks an avenue to enhance an already fine resource. This is done by funding programs and projects that are focused on education. In the 30 years LPF has existed it has helped educate thousands of children, supported the care of thousands of animals at the Wildlife Center and funded hundreds of projects. Thank you for your continued generous support.

Additionally, LPF funds requests for student scholarships and camperships to participate in environmental education programs. Each year, approximately 900 students are able to participate in learning experiences in Lake Metroparks programs that they otherwise would not be able to enjoy.
