🚨SEVERE WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

For the remainder of today, May 28th, 2026, Stone County is currently under a Flash Flood Warning with expected rainfall totals between 2–5 inches.

WFD urges everyone in our community to remain weather aware and take the necessary precautions to stay safe during this severe weather event.

⚠️ FLOOD SAFETY TIPS ⚠️

🏠 Seek Higher Ground:
If a flash flood warning is issued, immediately move to higher ground such as a hill or the upper floor of a sturdy building.

🚫 Avoid Attics:
Do not shelter in a closed attic where rising water could trap you. Only move to the roof if absolutely necessary and signal for help.

📢 Obey Evacuation Orders:
If local officials issue evacuation orders, leave immediately and follow recommended evacuation routes.

⚡ Electrical Safety:
Stay away from rooms where water has reached electrical outlets, appliances, or extension cords to avoid electrocution hazards.

🚗 SAFETY WHILE DRIVING 🚗

🔄 Turn Around, Don’t Drown:
Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through flooded roadways.

🌊 Know the Danger:
As little as 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, while 2 feet can sweep away larger SUVs and trucks.

🚘 Abandon Stalled Vehicles:
If your vehicle stalls in rapidly rising water, leave it immediately and move to higher ground.

🌉 Avoid Bridges:
Stay off bridges over fast-moving water, as they can fail or wash away without warning.

WFD will continue monitoring weather conditions throughout the day. Please stay alert, monitor local forecasts, and check on family members, neighbors, and those who may need assistance.

This morning, A Shift had the opportunity to visit the Kids Learning Factory for a fun show and tell all about fire trucks, firefighters, and the tools we use every day to help keep our community safe!

The kids got to see the fire truck up close, learn about our gear and equipment, and ask lots of great questions. We always enjoy spending time with our future firefighters and teaching fire safety in a fun and interactive way.

Thank you to the Kids Learning Factory for having us out this morning! 🧯🔥

Congratulations to our very own Chief Purvis for completing session 2 of the Mississippi Executive Fire Officer Program! 👏🏼 👏🏼

The Mississippi Executive Fire Officer Program, Session 2. These students worked diligently on their applied research projects, finalizing their research questions and refining their problem and purpose statements as they prepare to begin their research. They engaged in leadership discussions led by Instructor Supervisor Luke Smith on insights from Dick Winters, and Instructor Chief Matt Hinkle presented on the use of AI in research. They also heard from guest speakers Dr. Brian Boutwell, PhD from the University of Mississippi, Dr. Reed Abraham from the Mississippi Insurance Department, and Jesse Bowman of the Mississippi State Fire Academy, who led a session on APA formatting.

Earlier today at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Wiggins Fire Department was dispatched to a CPR in progress involving a 10-year-old girl at Flint Creek Water Park.

Upon arrival, crews found the patient awake, alert, and coughing up water. The patient was stabilized on scene and transported by helicopter for further evaluation. At this time, the patient is stable.

We would like to thank Pat Harrison Waterway District, Pafford EMS, and Rescue 7 for their quick response, assistance, and teamwork during this incident. We would also like to recognize and thank the three lifeguards on duty who performed lifesaving measures prior to emergency crews arriving on scene. Their quick actions made all the difference today!!!

Please keep the child, her family, and all the responders in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you to our local Girl Scout Daisy Troop for stopping by and spending time with us at the fire station! We loved getting to teach the girls all about the fire station, our fire trucks, equipment, and fire safety. Of course, the highlight of the visit may have been a special appearance from our very own Ruby to the Rescue ! 🚒🐾💛

We appreciate the opportunity to help inspire and educate the next generation while making fun memories along the way!

📣📣Thank you all so much for the incredible support for the Wiggins Junior Fire Academy! We are excited for another great summer.

Mrs. Stephanie has reached out to all parents and has posted each class roster on our previous post. At this time, all of our classes are full and at maximum capacity, and we are unable to accept any additional recruits… Last year we had 81 recruits go through our academy, and this year we have 102 registered!

If there are any cancellations or additional classes added, we will post updates on this page.

Thank you again for supporting this program and our future fire service leaders!!! 🧯🔥
