Anglesea Irish Society

Anglesea Irish Society Mission Statement The Anglesea Irish Society is a fraternal, faith-based, non-partisan
organization based in southern Cape May County.

We are chartered by
the Second Street Irish Society of Philadelphia...
Our organization seeks to enhance the lives of our members and their
families as well as the lives of neighbors in the community and throughout the
region, and we do so through the many social, educational, religious and
charitable activities we initiate and/or participate in. Our Catholic faith, Irish Heritage and American

pride motivate our
organization to answer the call of duty of volunteerism and community service. The Anglesea Irish Society exists to serve as a beacon to those who may
not have the courage to stand up for what they believe is right and to lend
assistance to those that do. We, as a society, aim to clear the way when
needed, even in the face of adversity and to challenge others to do the same

The funeral of Volunteer Bobby Sands took place on this day 45-years-ago.

Over 100,000 people formed the funeral cortège that made its way towards Milltown Cemetery in Belfast - remaining one of the largest attendances at a funeral in Irish history.

“They have nothing in their whole imperial arsenal that can break the spirit of one Irishman who doesn't want to be broken.” -

📜 On this day - 24th April 1916 🇮🇪

The Easter Rising began in Dublin, marking a decisive moment in modern Irish history.

Irish Volunteers and members of the Irish Citizen Army took key positions across the city, including the General Post Office. From its steps, Patrick Pearse read the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, declaring Ireland an independent republic.

The Rising lasted six days before being suppressed. Its immediate impact was limited, but the executions that followed, including Pearse and James Connolly, shifted public opinion.

In time, it became a defining event on the path to Irish independence.

On this day, April 18, 1949, Ireland took its final step to full independence and became a republic 🇮🇪 After centuries of struggle, sacrifice and determination, from 1916 through the War of Independence and beyond, the last remaining ties to Britain were finally cut. It was more than a political change, it was a clear statement to the world that Ireland would stand fully on its own, sovereign and self-governing.

The Anglesea Irish Society celebrated 20 years of helping the Greater Wildwood Jaycees NJ with their Annual Easter Egg Hunt! It’s great when two Non-profit charitable organizations join forces! A lot of good can get accomplished. Together we buried over 14,000 eggs, and close to 3,000 children happily dug them up.
