🐾 Exciting news for WPD’s K-9 Unit!

Last week, SECO Energy presented Chief Randy Parmer with a $25,000 grant to help fund the addition of a new K-9 to the Wildwood Police Department.

We are currently in the early stages of expanding our K-9 Unit, and this support will play an important role as we move forward with the selection process.

Last week, the Wildwood Police Department Community Outreach Team attended the grand opening of Kaleidoscope, The Learning Center, LLC in Bushnell! 🎉

Kaleidoscope School provides a supportive learning environment designed to meet the unique needs of students with special abilities, while serving families throughout Sumter County, including here in Wildwood.

We were grateful to help celebrate this exciting milestone and wish the students, families, and staff many years of success! 💙

Our first-ever Golf Cart Safety Class was a huge success! 🚔⛳

Residents learned about golf cart and low-speed vehicle safety, rules of the road, local ordinances, and state laws. Our Traffic Unit answered questions, and attendees had the opportunity to register their golf carts through WPD’s new Golf Cart Motor Vehicle Index Registration Program and receive their personalized decals.

Thank you to The Villages NYPD Club for welcoming the Wildwood Police Department to speak at its meeting last week!

Captain Kinder shared important information about scams and fraud and Sergeant Layne gave a presentation on the department’s new Golf Cart Safety Class and voluntary Golf Cart Registration Program.

The club also generously donated $250 to help WPD purchase school supplies for local children. We are grateful for their hospitality, generosity, and continued support of our department and community!

A first for WPD! 🛺

Yesterday, we printed the very first decal for the Wildwood Police Department’s new Golf Cart Motor Vehicle Index (GCMVI) registration program and officially placed it on the WPD golf cart!

This free, voluntary program gives golf cart owners an added measure of safety and security by helping first responders identify the owner during an emergency and making lost or stolen golf carts easier to identify and recover.

Golf cart owners can register:
• At an official WPD Golf Cart Safety Class
• By calling 352-330-1355 to schedule an appointment
• By completing the official registration form and returning it to WPD

👮‍♂️💙 We had a special visitor at WPD last week!

Our new friend Max stopped by dressed in uniform and spent some time with Lieutenant Harrie and Lieutenant Perry, who made sure he left with a few goodies.

Visits like this help children learn that law enforcement officers are their friends and that the police department is always a safe place to turn when they need help.

🚔 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over!

With Labor Day approaching, the Wildwood Police Department is reminding everyone to celebrate responsibly and make safe choices on the road. During the 2024 Labor Day weekend, 505 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide, and 33% of those deaths involved an impaired driver.

From August 19 through September 7, our officers will be out in force looking for impaired drivers and keeping our roads safe. If you plan to drink, plan a safe ride home. A DUI can cost nearly $10,000, but the cost of a life is immeasurable.

Celebrate responsibly. Drive sober or get pulled over.
