The City of Wilkes-Barre’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July is planned for Saturday, July 4th from 12 PM to 10 PM in Kirby Park on Market Street. Opening Ceremonies will begin at 12:30 PM with a welcome from Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown.

Live entertainment includes:
1:00 PM: Eddie Day & TNT
4:00 PM: Idol Kings
7:30 PM: Full

Fireworks will begin between approximately 9:00 and 9:30 PM and are presented by Skyshooter Displays.

The City reminds residents and visitors that alcoholic beverages, glass containers, smoking, face masks, and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are prohibited in Kirby Park. Additionally, dogs are not permitted in the park during the Fourth of July, per City Ordinance Sec. 5-13(c): "No dog shall be allowed in or on any public park or property within the confines of the City of Wilkes-Barre that is being used as a location for a city-sanctioned event". Kirby Park will close immediately after the conclusion of the fireworks.

Market Street Bridge will be closed to vehicle travel on Saturday, July 4th from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

A WBFD Ambulance will be placed in service from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM next to the Martz Pavilion inside Kirby Park and a WBFD Engine will be placed in service from 4:30 PM to 11:00 PM near the command post for the fireworks vendor.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY FOR SUNDAY, JUNE 28, 2026

The City of Wilkes-Barre is alerting motorists to road closures scheduled for Sunday, June 28th, as the Rainbow Alliance is hosting its 20th Annual NEPA PrideFest in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Lineup for the parade begins at 11 AM with the parade beginning at 12 PM. The festival continues on Public Square until 4 PM. The parade route will be closed between 10:00 AM and the conclusion of the parade. Any vehicles parked at bagged meters will be ticketed and towed beginning at 10 AM Sunday morning.

Beginning at 11 AM, the parade will line up on South Main Street between Ross and South Streets and on South St between South Washington and South Main and on South between Franklin and South Main Streets. All parade participants will come into the staging area from Ross and South Main Street. The parade will head down South Main to Public Square.

The streets surrounding Public Square—East Market from Washington Street to Public Square, West Market from Franklin to Public Square, South Main from Northampton to Public Square and North Main Street from Butler Lane to Public Square will be closed until the festival finishes. Roads will reopen to traffic between 4pm and 5pm.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor George C. Brown announced that there will be street cleaning in Wilkes-Barre City from Monday, June 29th through Thursday, July 2nd. The schedule is tentative and weather permitting.

“No Parking” signs, with the street sweeping day indicated, will be posted during street cleaning in each neighborhood. Vehicles will be ticketed if not moved. Residents are asked to please stay alert to posted signs on streets where they park their vehicle. The tentative schedule is below. Additional neighborhood sweeping schedules will be announced as they are scheduled.

Wilkes-Barre City has announced the following restrictions and interruptions to Kirby and Nesbitt Parks in preparation for the America250PA Commonwealth Concert Series on June 20th in Kirby Park.

Beginning on Tuesday, June 16th, visitors to Kirby Park should expect interruptions in the parking lot and restricted areas in Kirby Park. The park will remain open; however visitors are asked to please use caution as there will be heavy equipment in use in preparation for the concert.

The Nesbitt Park Boat Launch will be closed from Friday, June 19th at 8 PM to Sunday, June 21st at 8 AM.
