Retirees, who own their home “free and clear” after decades of mortgage payments, are often forced to sell because their property taxes have risen with inflation to exceed what their mortgage payment used to be. As we all know, Prohibition was tried, but it just didn’t work. People still drank, but they had to settle for home-brews, which were not always safe. Some people even died from drinking them. Since business people could no longer sell alcohol, organized crime did. Turf battles killed innocent bystanders, and law enforcement officials found they could make more money taking bribes than jailing the bootleggers. Aggression was ineffective—and expensive, both in terms of dollars and lives. When Prohibition was repealed, people bought their alcohol from professional brewers instead of criminals. How true!

The best defense is to have no enemies. Trade turns enemies into friends by increasing the wealth of both nations (e.g., Japan after WWII). Trade with every nation may be the best “defense” of all! War voraciously consumes resources, destroying the prosperity of nations which engage in it regularly. Consequently, war should always be a last resort, rather than a way of life. We must end the wars before they end us.

“The 1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act were intended to prevent drug disasters like the European drug, thalidomide, which caused babies to be born with missing limbs. However, these regulations made it virtually impossible for manufacturers to tell the American public about the preventative effects of vitamins and minerals. In the 1980s, we knew that the B vitamin, folic acid, could almost completely eliminate certain types of serious birth defects.

The FDA told folic acid manufacturers they would be prosecuted if they talked about these studies or if they pointed out that the Center for Disease Control, another government body, was recommending that young women take folic acid as a preventative.

Consequently, at least 10,000 babies were born needlessly deformed, while many others were aborted. The Amendments caused an ‘American thalidomide’, the very problem they were intended to prevent, demonstrating that bad laws can have side effects just as deadly as bad drugs.”

"The 'War Against Terrorism', as we practice it today, kills many times more innocents than terrorists. Labeling these deaths 'collateral damage' doesn't bring them back or give grieving families less incentive to join the jihad against us. War voraciously consumes resources, destroying the prosperity of nations which engage in it regularly. Consequently, war should always be a last resort, rather than a way of life.
