Ruth's Place

Ruth’s Place, a program of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, is an emergency shelter for women.

Ruth’s Place is the only emergency shelter dedicated to serving women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County. Ruth’s Place provides both lodging and services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in an environment where women feel safe, supported and encouraged. Using evidence-based practices, the program provides temporary and short-term emergency shelter while coordinating with community partners t

o address our guests’ basic physical, financial, health, emotional and spiritual needs. Our dedicated staff assists our guests in forming and following a permanent housing plan to quickly achieve stable, long-term housing.

We are so grateful for the continued support of the Mountaintop Christian Community Church. The women of Ruth's Place always look forward to their donation of purses, personal hygiene, clothing, and food. This in combination with the spiritual and emotional support they offer the women serves as a much needed "pick me up" on their most difficult days 🩷

A BIG "Thank you" to Girl Scout Troop 30179: We may be a season or two late, but we couldn't let the year go by without thanking the generous donor who gave 26 heated vests. Their gift brought warmth, comfort, and care during the coldest days of winter. Our gratitude hasn't melted one bit. 🧥 ❤️❄️🔥

With dangerous temperatures in our area, Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania set up small outdoor cooling stations around our River St. office in Wilkes-Barre, available today and tomorrow. Whether you need a break from the heat or a bottle of water, we're here for you. A heartfelt thank you to the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Rainbow Alliance for donating more than 20 cases of water to help keep our neighbors safe during the heat wave.
