Did someone say... Big Boy? 🚂
For the first time since the 1960's, two Big Boys are next to each other.

Pictured here is Ambulance 42-5 with UP 4014 and 4012 behind.

In celebration of America's 250, Union Pacific Railroad brought their 4014 steam locomotive to our area. 4014 is the largest and heaviest functional steam train in the world. Union Pacific's Steam crew will call Scranton home for the next week and a half as they perform maintenance and get rest in preparation for their trip to Philadelphia and then back to Wyoming.

One of our Scranton Stations crew took the opportunity to visit Steamtown National Historic Site and EMT Romero snapped this picture.

Thank you to the Park Superintendent for letting that happen! As well as thank you Union Pacific for keeping history alive!

Staff Floodlight 📸 ~ Learn more about some of our Team Member journeys bringing them through Geisinger EMS

We happily shine the floodlight on, Jackson Blansfield, EMT 🚑

Jackson has been with the Geisinger EMS Team since July 2025. Jackson was active in Boy Scout Troop 33 in Riverside where he obtained the First Aid Merit badge, the Wilderness Survival Merit badge, and the Emergency Preparedness Merit badge. Jackson is now attending Penn College, majoring in Emergency Management and Homeland Security while also working at Geisinger EMS.

Jackson states “My friend in the troop suggested that I should join the Geisinger EMS Explorer post to get more experience in medicine since I was seen as the ‘Dr. of the troop.’” I have always had a sway towards healthcare, especially EMS. Jackson was active throughout the Geisinger EMS Explorer Post then attended the Geisinger EMS’s EMT Apprentice Program where he went on to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician!

Jackson explained that he has come to realize as you have Situation A with Plan A and Plan B, but sometimes you end up getting further down the alphabet for alternative plans. A lot of creativity and spur of the moment thinking alongside problem solving that comes with the job. “Working at Geisinger has placed me in many situations where I see the creativity in the moment with my coworkers that have decades of experience, which creates amazing learning opportunities”.

Jackson discussed how you get to be there for someone on their worst day, and sometimes their best. “You get to be there for some peoples first time experience such as delivering a baby. You also are there to comfort families when they need you in their most difficult situations, like losing a loved one.”

“I really want to say this career path has made me feel like one of the best in society, you get to see all parts of society and that helps you understand different perspectives, cultures and differences that you might not have considered before. You won't look at the same people in the same way just walking down the street, not on duty or after you see certain moments of life that are the good or bad. EMS has been an eye-opening experience in many ways for me, and I would highly recommend anyone who has an interest in it to pursue it.”

Prayer for the Family of Jerry Splitt, Our EMS Family, and All Who Continue His Legacy

Heavenly Father,

Today we come before You with hearts filled with sorrow as we mourn the passing of Jerry Splitt, a dedicated Program Director, Flight Nurse, mentor, colleague, and friend. We thank You for the life he lived and the countless people he served through his compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

Jerry answered the call to care for those who were hurting, frightened, and in need. Like the Good Samaritan in Scripture, he did not pass by when others were suffering. He stopped, he cared, he comforted, and he gave of himself so that others might have hope and healing. Through long hours, difficult missions, and moments of crisis, he reflected the love of Christ through acts of mercy and service.

Lord, we lift up Jerry’s family before You. Surround them with Your peace, comfort, and strength in the difficult days ahead. Hold them close when grief feels overwhelming and remind them that they do not walk this journey alone.

We also pray for our fellow flight crews, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, pilots, dispatchers, physicians, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and healthcare professionals who mourn the loss of a trusted colleague and friend. Grant them comfort as they remember the many lives Jerry touched and the example he set through his servant-hearted leadership.

May we all be inspired to continue his legacy by caring for others with the same compassion, dedication, and kindness that he demonstrated throughout his life.

Scripture

“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he was attacked by robbers… But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.” — Luke 10:30,33

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your master.” — Matthew 25:23

Gracious God, thank You for Jerry’s life of service and sacrifice. As we grieve, help us to remember that death is not the end for those who belong to You. Through Christ’s resurrection, we hold fast to the promise of eternal life and the hope of reunion in Your heavenly kingdom.

Until that day, may Your peace guard our hearts, Your love sustain us, and Your grace carry us forward.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Savior, we pray.

Amen —
