Where We Go visits DEVIL'S KITCHEN !

Where We Go visits the “Devil’s Kitchen”. This rock formation sits on a rise above the famous "Devil’s Den" and on the lower slopes of Big Round Top. On July 2, 1863, Union Colonel Strong Vincent’s skirmishers first came into contact with the advancing units from Texas in this vicinity. On July 2, 1863 the southern army passed over Devil's Kitchen on their way to attack little round top. Prior to the fighting when Vincent's Brigade arrived on Little Round Top a company from the 44th NY, Company B was sent out into this area and had skirmished with the 4th & 5th Texas when they came over this rise of ground and rocks. This is where Capt. Lucius Sherman Larrabee of Company B of the 44th NY was killed in the action. He had a premonition of his death prior to the battle and told his friend. All day long on July 3rd 1863, sharp shooters from Devil's Den, the slopes of Little Round Top and the Devil's Kitchen, fired on Little Round Top. At that time the forest wasn't so dense and so Little Round Top was visible for sharp shooters to fire on.

Where We Go visits the 1863 Inn Of Gettysburg.....on Baltimore Street, Gettysburg where we have always stayed when in town. Located in the heart of historic Gettysburg you are within walking distance of not only many well known restaurants & shops, but the battlefield as well. Every day there is a self-serve breakfast buffet, coffee is always available in the lobby and a swimming pool during the summer season. Reasonably priced and always worth the stay. Highly recommended!
