Exams got off to a great start last week, and we had 99.6% attendance on Friday for students who had required EOC and CTE testing! Way to go, Eagles! Our students also worked incredibly hard on their exams, and we hope that continues on Monday as students continue to complete required state assessments.
For students who had English 2, Math 1, Math 3, and/or Biology this semester, our teachers will be reaching out to families to share how they did on NC required end of course assessments. Remember, we want to support each student to show as much growth as possible to ensure he/she is best prepared for subsequent courses. For any students who did not initially score proficient (3 or higher) on these exams, our teachers will contact parents if students could benefit from retesting in English II, Math 1, Math 3, or Biology to improve their scores and have the exams better reflect their learning. Also, it is important to note that a student’s proficiency is recorded on their high school transcript, and EOC scores that improve will be used to recalculate students’ final course grades. For any student who retests, the higher of the two scores is used to calculate their final grade, so there is no penalty for students to who attempt to improve their scores by retesting. Students who did not score at a level 3 or higher are eligible to retest but must complete at least one day of remediation before retesting. We hope all of our students needing this opportunity will use a growth mindset, and our teachers will share the options they have to complete one day of remediation and then retesting on the following day June 1-4, 2026. If you have any questions, please contact our office or your child’s teacher to make arrangements and RSVP that they will be attending. Regular bus routes will be available each day, but if the school can assist with transportation, please let your child’s teacher know.
All students owing fees from this school year or previous years must have these paid no later than June 4th. These fees can include school fees, media fees, and/or technology fees. Seniors must have any remaining fees paid by June 3, 2026 prior to graduation practice at 5:30 p.m. If your student owes any fees, please make sure you are contacting our office to make arrangements. If your family needs assistance with fees, please contact our school social worker, Ms. Brandy Walsh.
Class of 2026: On Wednesday, June 3rd, our graduating seniors will have their graduation practice and picnic beginning at 5:30 p.m. As a reminder, all seniors who plan to participate in graduation are required to attend this practice. Our 2026 commencement ceremony for the Class of 2026 will be held on Thursday, June 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in the WCHS New Gym. Tickets are required for all guests. Doors open at 5:30 PM, stadium seats are prohibited, seating is first come, first serve. Tickets become void if the holder has not entered the New Gym by 6:50 PM. No re-entry is permitted once guests enter the New Gym, and concessions will be available prior to the ceremony.
For guests attending our commencement ceremony for the Class of 2026, you can learn important information about our event by reading our Guest Reminders (Spanish) and Commencement Etiquette (Spanish) guides. As you arrive, guests and families should park in designated parking areas only. Staff will be stationed around our campus to assist you with parking. At the end of the ceremony, graduates will report to the concession stand area in the New Gym lobby to pick up diplomas and other materials from school staff within 15 minutes of the conclusion of the ceremony. Thank you for your help, in advance, for following the directions of our staff during this event, as we want to make this event special for the Class of 2026 while also keeping everyone’s safety our #1 priority. We look forward to celebrating the graduates of our Class of 2026! Livestream links can be found on our school’s social media sites.
Students will receive final report cards through the mail this year if they have no unpaid fees. Report cards will be mailed to families by June 10th. Report cards of students who have unpaid fees will be available for pick-up by parents/guardians in our main office upon payment of unresolved fees.
Attention students registered for honors English classes next year: Don't forget if you are planning to take an honors or AP level of English next year, you will need to read a novel and complete an assignment to go with it. The assignment will be due the first day of class, whether in the Fall or Spring semester. Please check wchs.wilkescountyschools.org under Academics and English Language Arts for your specific readings/assignment. If you would like to check out any of the novels over the summer, please feel free to check the novels out in the WCHS Learning Commons before June 4th. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to [email protected].
