In light of the recent tragedy that occurred in Hahira this past week, we want to remind everyone how important it is to Move Over for emergency vehicles.

When you see law enforcement, fire, EMS, utility crews or tow operators on the side of the roadway with flashing lights, Georgia law requires drivers to move over one lane when possible or slow down significantly if you cannot safely change lanes.

This past weekend alone, deputies observed four Move Over violations within just 30 minutes on US 84. These violations put first responders — and the traveling public — at serious risk.

The Brooks County Sheriff’s Office is committed to enforcing the Move Over Law to protect those who protect you. If you don’t move over, you will be stopped.

Please do your part:➡️ Move Over➡️ Slow Down➡️ Stay Alert
A simple decision can save a life.

The Willacoochee Police Department wishes to inform residents that the City of Willacoochee maintains an active contract with Animal Control. Should you become aware of any dog or cat in need of shelter, please utilize our local emergency line. With the onset of colder weather, it is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of our animals.

It is important to note that the City of Willacoochee enforces an animal ordinance. This week, officers from the Willacoochee Police Department will collaborate closely with Animal Control to monitor the area and provide assistance to any animals in distress. Noncompliance with city ordinances or state law may result in citations or arrest.

Furthermore, in the event that a dog owned by an individual attacks a person or another animal, the dog will be required to undergo a quarantine period of a minimum of ten days. This timeframe is designated for the assessment of the animal's behavior and to verify that it is up-to-date with its vaccinations. This evaluation will be conducted by an Animal Control officer.

Pet owners are reminded that the city mandates all dogs to be leashed while outside their property. Dogs may only run freely if they are situated within an enclosed area on the owner's premises.

For any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact the Willacoochee Police Department or City Hall.

The test samples are collected from an inactive well that the city does not currently utilize for its water supply. These samples are taken quarterly to ensure that the well remains safe and effective for potential use if future needs arise. The city is actively planning the development of a new well to enhance its water resources and reliability. In the meantime, the well presently in operation is functioning efficiently and continues to meet the city's current water demands.
