Join us for the annual 9/11 Silent Walk, lead and organized by Sue Coppersmith. Sue has been working with the City and the school on this year’s walk as it’s the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Participants taking part in the walk will be able to purchase a football ticket for a reduced rate of $5 at the 9/11 home game. There will also be a pre-game ceremony honoring 9/11. We hope you’ll join us in remembering this day that shaped our nation and honoring all the lives lost and the lives that were forever changed.

*Flyer is shared with permission from Sue Coppersmith in partnership with the City and the school.

Reminder that tomorrow is the deadline for your story submissions!

WILLARD, PLEASE HELP US PRESERVE YOUR 9/11 STORIES

We have received a great deal of positive feedback about this meaningful project, which the City of Willard, Sue Coppersmith and Willard City Schools are working together to create. A few individuals have also shared brief memories in the comments on our original post; however, we have not yet received any formal story submissions to include in the educational video.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Not a single student currently attending Willard City Schools was alive when this tragic day occurred, making firsthand memories from members of their own community especially valuable.

You do not need to have been directly affected by the events of 9/11 in order to participate. Tell us where you were when you heard the news, what you remember about that day, how it affected you or your family, or how you witnessed our community and country respond.

Your story does not need to be lengthy or perfectly written. Even a few sincere sentences can help our students understand that 9/11 was not simply an event in a history book - it was a day that profoundly affected real people, including those within their own community.

While we appreciate the memories shared in the comments, please formally submit your story to: [email protected] or [email protected] by August 31, 2026, so it may be considered for inclusion in the video.

We are asking for your help in bringing this important project to life. Please consider sharing your memories or encourage someone you know to participate.

With the help of our community, we can preserve these firsthand experiences and share them with the next generation.

If you are wondering what these devices are, they count traffic. In years past, we placed tubes across the street to count how many vehicles drove down a particular road. Today, our Engineers use these digital traffic counters. We will use this information to apply for over $100,000 in grants to resurface various roads throughout the city in 2027 where these counters are placed. These devices are scheduled to be removed in 24 hours.
