Kaibab NF campgrounds and day-use areas will reopen in May for the 2026 season!

☀️Day Use starts May 1
Daily rates and annual rates are available (locals discount on annual pass for Williams-area residents).

New this year, the pavilion at Kaibab Lake will also be available for reservation at www.Recreation.gov

🏕️Reserved camping starts May 15.
You can start making reservations now on www.Recreation.gov

Tusayan-Montane Campground will be open for first-come, first-served camping May 1-15 and September 30 – October 31.

The Kaibab National Forest plans to conduct prescribed fire operations on the North Kaibab Ranger District this spring on up to 6,136 acres near Jacob Lake and along and north of State Route 89A. Work could begin as early as March 17, pending approval.

Prescribed fire helps protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources by reducing hazardous fuels and maintaining fire resilient landscapes.

Stay updated on planned burns through the forest website, social media channels and InciWeb. County emergency managers will be notified when operations begin.

PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE: Pile burning on the North Kaibab Ranger District the Week of Feb 23.

Continued pile burning may be possible early this week on the North Kaibab Ranger District in the Highway 89A and Jacob Lake areas based on remaining snow accumulated around the piles.

Should ignitions occur, expect smoke in the vicinity with some residual smoke to settle overnight in low areas around Jacob Lake and along the highway.

With current and forecast snow this week, Forest Service and National Park Service fire crews are planning to conduct pile burning on the North Kaibab Ranger District in the vicinity of Highway 89A and the Jacob Lake area should weather and safety allow. Expect some residual smoke to settle overnight in low areas around Jacob Lake and along the highway.

Kaibab National Forest Update:

Starting tomorrow, we’re reopening 8,600 acres of House Rock Valley and 2.4 miles of the Nankoweap/Saddle Mountain Trail! ⚠️

Some areas remain closed due to flooding risks and hazards. Check our Alerts page for details before you visit.

✅ Restoring public access to the National Forest remains a top priority. Some areas will remain closed until hazards can be mitigated for public safety.

✅ Use caution in reopened areas—hazards like dead trees and flash flooding remain. Drive carefully!

PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY NOTICE: Pile burning on all ranger districts Week of Jan 12.

The Tusayan Ranger District piles are near the town of Tusayan and smoke will be visible from town and Highway 64. Expect some residual smoke to settle overnight in low areas around town and along the highway.

The Williams Ranger District piles are just S of town and east of Bill Williams Mountain and will be visible from town and the highway. Expect some residual smoke to settle overnight in low areas around town and along the highway.

The North Kaibab Ranger District piles are in the vicinity of the north side of Highway 89A and the Jacob Lake area. Expect some residual smoke to settle overnight in low areas around Jacob Lake and along the highway.

Update: All Kaibab NF offices in Williams and Tusayan remain closed Friday, January 9. Offices are scheduled to reopen with normal business hours Monday, January 12.

Update: As of 2:00 p.m, the Tusayan Ranger District Office is also closed.

As of 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, Kaibab National Forest offices in Williams are temporarily closed due to current and forecast hazardous weather conditions.ctssedud
