NEW Update March 12th 2026...... IAFF Local 2498 Past Vice President, Current Senior Trustee and Parade Floats Project Committee Chairman Barry Powell provided a Full & Detailed Update on the progress of our units...... He stated that the Auxiliaries Pull Fire Engine was 100% Complete and ready to go. He reported that we will needed to mount a Pull Handle on our Auxiliary's Peddle Fire Engine, the peddles need to be removed and a Safety Plate welded on the bottom. He then reported on the progress of the local's MINI Tiller Truck. He said that it is 70% Complete. He stated that they will soon be installing the New LED Light Package and Siren Package to the unit. He said it might be completed by the end of summer 2026. He stated that since the Local's Enclosed Trailer has not been Plugged in to Shore Power at the Union Hall in over 2 years. The Emergency Brake Battery is most likely dead as well as the Tiller Truck Batteries. They will all need to be replaced and the trailer will need a good washing and waxing. Once back under the Union Hall Shelter it will remain plugged into Shore Power as designed and outfitted. Virginia Firefighters are asking Gov. Abigail Spanberger to SIGN THE BILL! Collective bargaining for all Virginia firefighters is within our grasp. SB378 and HB1263 passed the General Assembly after much consideration and negotiation, and with the support of workers across the Commonwealth.

The effort, misinformation and fear-mongering of localities and their lobbying firms against collective bargaining is reason enough to demonstrate the need for it. On behalf of all Virginia firefighters, we are asking the Governor of Virginia to respect the will of the General Assembly and support the workers of Virginia, not those who wish to silence our voice.
