Dear Friend of Paws of Honor,
Every year on this day, my thoughts turn to the dogs.
I think about the K9s who searched through the rubble at Ground Zero and the Pentagon. I also think about the thousands of military and police dogs who continued to serve alongside our troops and first responders in the years that followed.
But today, I also find myself thinking about the handlers.
As the owner of a veterinary hospital who has had the privilege of caring for many military and law enforcement K9s over the years, I have seen that bond up close more times than I can count.
The vet appointment comes before their own doctor's appointment. Their partner's comfort comes before their own.
But what handlers cannot always do is carry the financial cost of that promise alone.
That's the reason I created Paws of Honor to help change.
Today, of all days, I am asking you to help us keep that promise.
It is a simple way to say, We remember you. We have not forgotten what you gave.
And to me, that's what this day is about: remembering.
Thank you for remembering these incredible K9 heroes with us and for helping us make sure they are cared for long after their service ends.
