Happy Birthday, West Virginia! 🎉💙💛
On June 20, 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, West Virginia became the 35th state in the Union—the only state born by separating from a Confederate state. From the rugged peaks of the Appalachians to the winding rivers and coalfields that helped power a nation, the Mountain State has always been defined by resilience, independence, and hardworking people.
For 163 years, West Virginians have answered challenges with grit, faith, and neighborly spirit. We have given America soldiers, miners, teachers, preachers, innovators, and generations of families who call these hills home.
Today we celebrate not just a place on a map, but a heritage of courage, community, and enduring pride.
Almost Heaven, West Virginia—Happy 163rd Birthday! 🎂⛰️🇺🇸
