This is why you might notice that he or she is growing and developing differently than a cousin or brother at that age. What you are noticing are

changes in different developmental areas. While all children grow and change at their own rate, some children can experience delays in their development. Sometimes this can be a cause for concern. This is where we come in to help. Our Early Intervention Team consists of many professionals that are experienced in child development. We will not diagnose or label your child; rather we work with them and your family to reach their maximum potential.

All children and youth deserve to feel safe, supported, and surrounded by people who believe in them. During National Foster Care Month, we honor the strength of the children and teens in foster care, the families who open their homes and hearts, and the professionals and community members who stand beside them every day. This month, we invite all Pennsylvanians to help ensure that every young person in our Commonwealth can build lifelong connections, experience unconditional support, and know they have a safe, nurturing place to call home.

There are so many meaningful ways to make a difference, becoming a foster parent, mentoring a young person, offering support to foster families, or simply spreading awareness. Every act of care helps create the stability and love that children and teens need to thrive.

May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and encouraging people to seek support when they need it.

It was started in 1949 by Mental Health America, and since then it’s become a major nationwide effort involving schools, workplaces, healthcare providers, and communities.

Why it matters

Mental health affects how people think, feel, and act every day. Conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress are extremely common, but many people still hesitate to talk about them or get help. This month helps normalize those conversations.

Main goals
Raise awareness about mental health conditions
Reduce stigma so people feel safer opening up
Encourage early support and treatment
Promote self-care and well-being habits
How people observe it
Sharing personal stories and resources
Wearing green (the color associated with mental health awareness)
Attending events, workshops, or campaigns
Checking in on friends, family, or coworkers
The bigger idea

Mental Health Awareness Month isn’t just about one month—it’s about building a culture where mental health is treated just as seriously as physical health, all year long.

The community is invited to attend the inaugural Mental Health Awareness Night on Thursday, May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Shaw Park in Williamsport.

Hosted by Skills of Central PA and sponsored by Community Care Behavioral Health Organization and Lycoming-Clinton Joinder Board Behavioral HealthChoices, this free, family-friendly event will bring together more than 10 local mental health providers from Clinton and Lycoming counties.

Centered on the theme “Together We Are One,” the evening will feature music, food, giveaways, and activities for all ages, while offering valuable opportunities to connect with resources that support mental health and wellness.
