Congratulations the Brady Township supervisors, staff and everyone involved for the work on the Turnback Road Improvement Project at the intersection of Elimsport Road in Montgomery. This project, funded by a 2019 PennDOT Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, earned well deserved recognition as the winner of the Pennsylvania Highway Information Association (PHIA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) 2026 Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Awards Program.

By elevating Turnback Road, the project eliminated frequent flood detours that once disrupted daily travel, school transportation and emergency response. Before the work, backlogs during major flooding could stretch 20 miles.

The project also safeguards critical township infrastructure by preventing floodwater from entering the sewer system, protecting public health and long term service reliability. These improvements will help families feel safer traveling during storms, ensure emergency responders can reach residents without delay and provide greater stability for local schools and bus routes. They also strengthen the township’s ability to withstand future weather challenges, reducing stress and uncertainty for residents.

This project reflects the very best of community focused leadership, and I could not be more proud to recognize and celebrate this well deserved honor.

I applaud the Lycoming County Commissioners for hosting the first in a series of public roundtables on juvenile delinquency prevention and community outreach improvement. The meeting was well attended by members of the public, juvenile probation, Lycoming County officials, members of law enforcement, many representatives of nonprofits and other organizations.

It stood out to me about 5% of the juvenile population is at risk or in contact with probation or law enforcement. During the meeting, discussion centered around challenges and potential solutions, including building trust, better relationships, fostering open communication with the youth population and possibly reactivating a juvenile delinquency commission.

Dialogue is an important first step, or a continued step, as city officials and school administrators have met in the past to talk about issues. Additional meetings are planned and I encourage everyone to attend and become part of the solution.

I was honored to attend the annual meeting and awards celebration for the United Way of North Central Pennsylvania. I admire and respect the ongoing work the organization does to support partner agencies throughout Lycoming, Sullivan and Tioga counties. One of the reasons the organization is so successful is because of the leadership, staff and volunteers who put in the time and energy. I’m especially pleased to congratulate Scott Lowry for receiving the Douglas C. Dickey Humanitarian Award, which is the highest honor the United Way bestows. It’s well deserved!

Congratulations to all the award winners, pictured in the group shot from left to right are: Michael Kolb, President's Award winner; Gerry Fausnaught, Harriett Lenhart Memorial Women's Leadership Award winner; Carolyn Hawk, President & CEO of United Way North Central Pennsylvania; Scott Lowry and Gabe Sinicropi, Douglas J. Shangraw Memorial Volunteer Award winner.

I’m proud of the 67 men and women who recently graduated from Lycoming County's GEO Reentry Program. It was the largest graduating class in the program's history. Members of my staff attended the graduation ceremony on my behalf.

The program is focused on helping individuals transition successfully from incarceration back into the community.

The achievement underscores the teamwork between program staff, probation officers and community partners who guide participants toward long term stability.

The success of the graduates reflects the power of second chances and the commitment to building a better path forward.

Today is Memorial Day, a day set aside to honor the more than 1.1 million Americans who have died in wars which the United States entered.

Please take a moment to remember these men and women who sacrificed their lives for us and for our country and consider participating in Memorial Day events in your community.

Here are a few events in the area:

My office was honored to present an official House citation to Noelle Collins, who earned the highest rank in Scouting by becoming an Eagle Scout. Noelle is currently a Senior at Loyalsock Township High School.

For her service project, Noelle worked with the Dwell Orphan and Adoption Agency to organize its Care Package Room and assist with shelving in the Hope Chest Room. She also sorted donated items to put them in backpacks to be shared in Bradford County.

Congratulations to Noelle on this outstanding achievement!

FLICK, HAMM ANNOUNCE $25,000 GRANT FOR LYCOMING CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER

HARRISBURG – Reps. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) and Joe Hamm (R – Lycoming/Sullivan) announced Lycoming Career and Technology Center (LycoCTC) is receiving $25,000 so the school can strengthen its training programs and give students access to modern equipment they need to succeed.

The money will be used to purchase new equipment, including an ironworker, for classrooms in a new training facility being built to keep up with the welding program enrollment and training demand.

“We need to continue to give students in each career field the biggest opportunity to pursue a high-quality education that prepares them for success,” Flick said. “I have helped secure funding for the Lycoming Career and Technology Center’s expansion of welding and other programs in the past, and I’m proud to see this funding reaffirm the Commonwealth’s confidence in the program.”

“Giving more students an opportunity to get into programs to receive excellent technical education is very important to me,” Hamm said. “Lycoming Career and Technology Center is producing the future workforce we need for critical jobs in our community, region and commonwealth. I was honored to support this funding for LycoCTC.”

The school was one of 10 across the state to receive funding through the Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant Program.

The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is in the middle of a multi-phase expansion project that is expected to add new programs in welding and diesel technology, relocate the early childhood education program into the main facility, and increase the school’s capacity by approximately 150 students.

Hosting the Speaker Series last month reminded me of the power of candid voices.

The topic of this year’s Speaker Series was Opioid Addiction: Loss, Recovery and Hope. It featured a powerful lineup of speakers who addressed the challenges communities continue to face and the progress being made. Speakers included Reps. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) and Dan Williams (D-Chester), chairs of the House Human Services Committee; Carolyn Miele, founder of Saving Lives for Zachary; Marc Lovecchio, an attorney and former Lycoming County judge; Kevin McNamara, a father who lost his son to an overdose; Kydreece Burks, an alumni of Williamsport Area High School and recent Penn State University graduate; and Jennifer Reeder, assistant director of West Branch Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission.

Throughout all the presentations, a consistent message emerged: the devastating impact of opioids on individuals and families, and the importance of remembering the humanity of those impacted.

At age 15, Kydreece Burks found his mother in the midst of an overdose. He talked with me during an interview about his decision not to give up on his siblings and mother and his commitment to do better for himself. He also emphasized the importance of a strong support system and the need to talk openly about addiction, which he says thrives in silence.
