Today was a great day. I was a guest speaker at Seeger to participate in career and education 8th grade classrooms about my job as Warren County Economic Director. My take aways:
1. Teachers do not get paid enough
2. 8th graders have a lot of good (and sometimes silly) questions
3. Seeger kids were attentive, curious and interested in what economic development means in Warren County.

They also thanked me (not prompted ) and at the last class after 5 hours of me talking/answering questions, one student came up and asked if she could shake my hand and thanked me for helping Warren County, and another student came up to me and said I was super cool and loved how young and fresh I kept it and was inspired and told me not to stop being me ♥️🥹 I didn’t catch their names but whoever is mom/dad/grandparents you should be super proud - it made my day.

I think it’s easy to complain about kids these days, but I realized they have enormous stress on them that we never had growing up. I also realize that a little bit of mentoring and helping them learn how to be curious/confident/inventive they will do greater things than we can even imagine. This is a wonderful program that Seegar has because it allows the kids to interview someone that they could relate to and see that what you think you are going to do in 8th grade is usually not what actually happens when you are in your 50’s, but it’s always about taking advantage of opportunities and believing in yourself.

My advice to the students about what was the best thing they could do to be successful (because they all asked that question) was read and travel a lot because you don’t know what you don’t know, learn how to be a good at sales (you will always have a good job if you can sell yourself), turn your phone off / hide it in a drawer when you come home at the end of the day and enjoy your family and friends.

As economic director, I’m inspired by today because I see future Warren County business owners/farmers/govt officials/artists/welders/firemen/teachers/IT directors/etc that will be working to do their best for the county.

Our office received an interesting phone call yesterday - not so much related to economic development but a fun opportunity for the Warren County community! Meredith, a producer with American Pickers on the History Channel, called to find out how she could get the word out that they were coming to Indiana this upcoming October and thought our office would be a good starting point as she saw us as a central hub of the county. :) Wouldn't it be awesome to see Warren County featured on this show! I told her even if they couldn't find a great place to pick, stopping by to check out Indiana's tallest waterfall and visiting some local businesses would be a fun segment.

Anyway, if you have an interesting collection or know of someone, reach out to Meredith at [email protected] or call and leave a voicemail at (646) 493-2184.

Why is Warren County such an incredible place to live, work, and grow?

The CEO of Farmers and Merchants Bank, Donald Blume, and Branch Manager, Emily Current, recently sat down to share what makes this community so special to them. For Emily, coming back to Warren County after graduation was a no-brainer, and the Warren County community has been a pivotal market for our bank.

Here is their best advice for making the most of life in Warren County:

Donald: “Get connected, get yourself out there, network. You get out of your community what you give to it.”

Emily: “Get involved as much as possible. We have so many great groups and organizations to get to know people. I cannot say enough good things about Warren County.”

With so much investment and development happening, the future of Warren County is brighter than ever. As a proud source of capital for rural areas, they are thrilled to be part of that growth and we are thrilled to share it with you!

Did you know the Williamsport Public Library is home to over 60,000 items?

Library Director Chris Brown recently shared the incredible story of how the library got started years ago and how it continues to serve as a hub of lifelong learning, from toddlers all the way to seniors.

Inside, you'll find everything from essential services like printing and faxing to the Learning Center, which offers GED preparation, robotics, certifications, welding classes, and more! Best of all? This entire effort was completely supported and funded by our amazing community.

Here is why Chris loves serving in Warren County:

“This is such a warm and welcoming place, I couldn't imagine being anywhere else.” “The businesses support each other. The possibilities are endless here. The resources we have with our community are just awesome.”

Whether you're looking for your next great read, learning a new skill, or utilizing their tech services, everyone is always welcome!

Stop by and visit in person! Follow them right here on Facebook!
