Of the hundreds of wildlife species in the C&O Canal, how many have you seen? We can’t say for sure, but we know our most commonly seen species are Eastern painted turtles and Canadian geese. This day was made for us. Today’s theme is America in Motion and what better place to highlight than the C&O Canal! The C&O Canal tells the story of one of America’s early transportation systems and stood witness to many key moments in our country’s history. It once served as a connection between the Cumberland Valley and the Chesapeake Bay by transporting goods, like coal, flour, whiskey, and lumber - among other things. Today, the C&O Canal embodies America in Motion through its use as a pedestrian and cyclist path, welcoming millions of visitors to travel this historic route. Celebrate America in Motion by getting out on the towpath today. Tag us in your photos that show us how you like to move when you are visiting the park!
