STEP AmeriCorps

STEP AmeriCorps AmeriCorps is a national service program that provides Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for community service.

The AmeriCorps program is a part of STEP's Community Collaboration Pathway to Success. The STEP AmeriCorps program is directly supervised by the state commission PennSERVE: The Governor's Office of Citizen Service. AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation.

The STEP AmeriCorps program partners with various non-profit organizations and schools in Clinton, Lycoming, and Union counties providing service opportunities to meet the region’s community needs. The program focuses on area of Economic Opportunity and Capacity Building to engage unemployed individuals in service that leads to employment for members seeking employment and builds the capacity of partner host sites to increase efficiency and effectiveness in their service deliveries. Also, members as a corps will identify and provide opportunities for diverse individuals and families to become engaged in their community through volunteerism.

General information

FULLTIME MEMBERS: • Make a 50-week commitment • Serve a minimum of 1700 hours ( 35 to 42 hours per week) • Earn an education award of $6,095.00 (to either apply to future educational expenses or repay existing qualified federal student loans. If 55 or over, can gift the award to a child, grandchild, or foster child.) • Gain valuable life and career experience • Receive a gross biweekly living stipend of $580.00 • Obtain personal and professional training • Make a real difference in your community • Receive Health Coverage if not enrolled in any other plan • Receive Child Care assistance, if eligible REDUCED FULLTIME MEMBERS: • Make a commitment from August to June • Serve a minimum of 1200 hours (35 to 42 hours per week. • Earn an education award of $4,266.50 (to either apply to future educational expenses or repay existing qualified federal student loans. If 55 or over, can gift the award to a child, grandchild, or foster child.) • Gain valuable life and career experience • Receive a gross biweekly living stipend of $515.00 • Obtain personal and professional training • Made a real difference in your community • Receive Health Coverage if not enrolled in any other plan • Receive Child Care assistance, if eligible HALFTIME MEMBERS: • Make a 50-week commitment • Serve a minimum of 900 hours (18 to 24 hours per week) • Earn education award of $3,047.50 (to either apply to future educational expenses or to repay existing qualified federal student loans. If 55 or over, can gift the award to a child, grandchild, or foster child.) • Gain valuable life and career experience • Receive a gross biweekly living stipend of $280.00 • Obtain personal and professional training • Made a real difference in your community Summer Quarter Time opportunities may also be available.

Our Story

The STEP AmeriCorps Program partners with numerous nonprofit organizations and schools in Clinton, Lycoming and Tioga Counties to provide service opportunities to meet the region’s community needs. STEP AmeriCorps members will be responsible for expanding the capacity of nonprofit organizations, who are focused on addressing community needs as well as enhancing the knowledge of customers as it relates to various health-related programs. In addition, members will leverage additional volunteers who will be engaged in service projects throughout the community. Members as a corps will identify and provide opportunities for diverse individuals and families to become engaged in their community through volunteerism.
