6/22/26 @ 715AM – Make sure you stay weather aware today ENC! We continue to monitor a conditional threat for a few strong thunderstorms as showers and thunderstorms approach from the west this evening. The strongest storms would bring a damaging wind threat. Expect the threat to peak between 7PM and 2AM. Will note coverage will be isolated in nature so expect showers and storms to be hit or miss.

6/21/26 @ 135PM - We are monitoring the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow (Monday, June 22). Current thinking is isolated showers and thunderstorms come in from the west after 7PM and bring a low end threat for strong winds (40-60 mph).

Good Morning Everyone,
Our office is actively monitoring the remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur as it moves across the southern US and towards Eastern NC.

Forecasted impacts for Martin County include:

Winds
- SW winds are expected to remain elevated between 10am and 6pm today.
- Sustained between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts between 20 and 25.
- SW winds are expected to transition from the N around 2pm.
There is no significant wind impacts forecasted for our area after sunset.

Rain
- Most of our precipitation is forecasted to occur between 5am and 7pm today, with the heaviest rains occurring between 11am and 2pm.
- Most areas of our county are forecasted to receive between ¾ and 1 inch of rain. However, locally higher amounts are possible.

It is likely that the remnants of Arthur will create a strong line (or band) of storms between 11am and 3pm, as its core moves through our area. Heavy rain, high winds, and isolated tornados are possible with these developing lines / bands.

We encourage everyone to continue to monitor trusted local media outlets for additional updates. We also ask for your help in keeping our county informed of developing severe weather by ensuring you, your family, friends, and neighbors have a means of receiving notifications of any watches and or warnings that may be issued. The remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur moves across ENC today bringing a threat of strong thunderstorms with isolated tornadoes and damaging winds possible. A cold front will move through this evening with isolated thunderstorms bringing an additional threat for isolated damaging wind gusts.

Hazardous Weather Update: June 18, 2026

Morning North Carolinians, there are a range of hazardous weather conditions to be aware of today. 👇

🌩️ Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are capable of producing damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible Thursday afternoon into Friday.

💧 Flash flooding is possible across the state through the end of the work week, especially across the western half of NC on Thursday where the heaviest rainfall is expected.

🥵 A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11AM until 8 PM Friday for central and eastern NC. High temperatures are expected to rise into mid to upper 90s to around 100°F across much of NC Thursday.

🔥 A Fire Danger Statement is in effect Thursday across the Piedmont and much of the Coastal Plain where gusty southwest winds, hot temperatures, and extremely dry fuels from ongoing drought conditions will lead to increased fire danger.

🌊 A High Rip Current risk is also forecast for portions of the central NC coast.

Increased Risk of Wildfire Due to Elevated Fire Danger -- Thursday, June 18, 2026

The National Weather Service has issued fire danger statements for central and eastern North Carolina. What does increased fire danger mean for you today?

🎯 Fires can start from the smallest spark.
🎯 Dry conditions and wind increase fire spread.
🎯 Everyday activities carry more risk right now.

Avoid burning, and be cautious with anything that could cause a spark. Properly dispose of smoking materials such as ci******es. Be extremely careful with machinery and farm equipment when working outdoors.

Aircraft are being used to support wildland firefighting efforts on multiple wildfires in our state right now. Wildfires are a no-drone zone.

It’s illegal to fly a drone near or over a wildfire in North Carolina.

N.C.G.S. §15A-300.4 -- No person, entity, or State agency shall use an unmanned aircraft system within either a horizontal distance of 3,000 feet or a vertical distance of 3,000 feet from any forest fire within the jurisdiction of the North Carolina Forest Service.

Firefighting aircraft that respond to wildfires fly low in support of ground personnel. Drones can pose a serious threat to pilot and public safety. A drone that disrupts air operations also puts firefighters, residents and property at risk of loss to wildfire.

Remember, wildfires are a no-drone zone. If you fly, we can’t.
