Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a fantastic summer and is ready for this school year and everything Medical Corps has planned for you! Catch Anastasia and Juna hosting the Medical Corps booth at the Purple Key fair. There were a lot of additions done to the program this year and we hope you check us out and see what's available!

Hi everyone! Hope you've been able to enjoy the warm weather lately! This is in case the email didn't get to you yet:

The Health and Wellness Fair will be happening this Friday the 28th from 11AM to 2PM in the Field House! We'll need posters to put up (attached in the email), help setting up, and even if you're busy for that, the Fair will feature local community organizations where you can sign up for volunteering either over the summer or next year!

Also, we will need a new President and a new Treasurer for next year--email [email protected] if you have nominations for either one.

Alright big update! We've got really several really big things coming up this Spring, and we're going to need all the help we can get!
1) We will be collaborating with the Women's Health Council and the Williams Feminist Collective on a massive, multi-event awareness program on the state of women and trans people in healthcare (especially considering that ACA's repeal has already passed the Senate, this is especially dire!) Look out for an email on updates on how you can help!
2) The Berkshire Doula Project will be coming to us in mid-February to offer training! More details will be posted as the date is finalized.
3) The annual Student/Faculty/Staff Health Fair will be happening in Spring this year, offering a comprehensive look at all the local healthcare available to you, whether you be a student, resident, or an employee of the college!

Flu season is here! Are you protected? Approximately 5-20% of people in the United States get influenza each year. Though vaccination is the best protection against flu, there are simple everyday preventive actions you can take to help fight the spread of germs. Check your email for CPR class sign ups! If the class date you'd like is full, (i believe they all are at the moment), then put your name underneath "extras" and you will get first dibs on the next CPR class on that particular day for a different date. Make sure to do this so we know which days should get another class!

Blood Pathogen Training with security was quick and informative! In a nutshell: use gloves to handle bodily fluids that aren't your own, treat all blood and other bodily fluids as if they are infectious, and if your skin contacts bodily fluids, quickly wash with soap and water!
Btw campus security is thrilled to have student involvement in improving the health and safety of Williams :)

Dinner with a Doc: Dr. Thet Soe Survey

1st DINNER WITH A DOC on Monday September 30th at 6 PM!
Dr. Thet Soe, head hospitalist at North Adams Hospital is very excited to meet with students. He attended medical school in Burma and completed his residency at Yale School of Medicine. Besides caring for patients, he is involved in a new project that measures patient satisfaction. He told me he wants an engaged audience! He'd like to hear our thoughts on medicine and patient care and how it can be improved; he'd like to answer plenty of questions; and also, offer insight into medicine and healthcare.
If you plan on attending please fill out this two question survey, so that we know how much food to order. I told him ~20-25 students, so it's essential to fill this out incase there are more students than that who'd like to attend. DEADLINE: SEPT. 15th

General information

The Williams College MRC creates opportunities for students interested in public health, healthcare, and community empowerment to receive first hand experience before embarking on their journeys beyond Williams. Members receive training, which includes CPR and first aid, that equips them to respond effectively during emergencies. Activities promoting health, such as health fairs, flu clinic assistance, blood drives, nutrition and exercise education, are also critical aspects of this MRC chapter.
