FLOOD WATCH in effect from Tuesday 12 noon thru Wednesday 8P for our area:

Remember: Turn around Don't Drown"

A cold front will move south towards the Ohio River Tuesday, providing a broad source of lift in a very moist airmass. Showers and thunderstorms that develop will likely produce very heavy rainfall with rates in excess of 2 inches per hour.

This front will stall over the region and could cause storms to repeatedly occur over the same areas. This will lead to a threat for flooding and flash flooding in and near the watch area.

The front will pass south of the region later Wednesday, ending the threat for heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding.

Today 29 members of the Northern Kentucky All-Hazards Incident Management Team graduated from the O-305 All-Hazards (Type 3) Incident Management Team training course. For the last five days, team members participated in classroom instruction as well as many activities. Members were divided into three IMT Teams and conducted several mock disasters all of which did an outstanding job.

The team's most recent deployment was the Mayfield, KY - Graves County Tornado disaster as they managed operations in their Emergency Operations Center on two deployments for a total of twenty-two (22) days.

The NKY IMT Team consists of members from the following agencies.

Campbell County KY Office of Emergency Management, Campbell County Fiscal Court, Boone County KY Emergency Management, Kentucky Department for Public Health, Kenton County Homeland Security Emergency Management, Kenton County Police Department, Kenton County Public Works, Kenton County - Government, Covington Fire/EMS, Covington Professional Firefighters Local 38, Burlington Fire Department, Butler County Sheriff's Office, Emergency Response Services (ERS), Lakeside Park-Crestview Hills Police Department, Independence Fire District, Fort Mitchell Fire Department, Kentucky Emergency Management, KYEM Area 6 Manager, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Pendleton County Emergency Management, Campbell County Fire District One, Grant County Emergency Management and Independence Police Department, The City of Independence, Kentucky.

Many thanks to Director William Turner with the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management for being instrumental in bringing the class to the region and for hosting it at the Campbell County Fire Training Center. This class was sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Healthcare Planning Coalition (NKHPC) whose mission is to support the regional healthcare community and response agencies by planning and responding to emergencies by promoting intra-regional cooperation through sharing of resources during preparedness, response, and recovery phases. Also, much thanks to Jessica McElroy, Readiness and Response Coordinator of the NKHPC.

You ask what is an Incident Management Team and what do they do?

An All-Hazard (Type 3) IMT is a multi-agency/multi-jurisdiction team for extended incidents formed and managed at the State, regional or metropolitan level. It is a designated team of trained personnel from different departments, organizations, agencies, and jurisdictions within a state or DHS Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) region, activated to support incident management at incidents that extend beyond one operational period. All-Hazard IMTs are deployed as a team of 10-35 trained personnel to manage major and/or complex incidents requiring a significant number of local, regional, and state resources. They also manage incidents that extend into multiple operational periods and require written Incident Action Plans (IAP). An All-Hazard (Type 3) IMT may be utilized in incidents such as a tornado touchdown, earthquake, flood, or multi-day hostage/standoff situation. They are also utilized at planned mass-gathering types of events such as festivals, political rallies, state, and national summits, and conferences. An All-Hazard IMT may initially manage larger, more complex incidents that are later transitioned to a Type 2 or Type 1 IMT.

A big shout out to Tetra Tech, facilitator Kevin Tobias and the four instructors, Nigel Baker, Bob King, Steve Dillon, and Jason Brandt for putting on a great training class! Team members stated this is one of the best training classes that they have ever taken with some of the best instructors ever.
