FOUND: ONE VERY SLOW-MOVING SUSPECT

Our officers had an unusual encounter today near Church Street and Academy Street when this little guy was found wandering the area without identification, registration, or any explanation as to where he was headed.

After a brief foot pursuit (we won ), the suspect was safely taken into custody.

Needless to say, the platoon had a little fun with this call!

We’re now looking to reunite our shelled friend with its owner. If this turtle belongs to you, or you know where it may have escaped from, please contact the Monroe Township Police Department or Gloucester County Animal Shelter

Please share and help us get this big guy back home!

• Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other loose items.

Statement regarding the juvenile incident that disrupted our schools today:

On September 24, 2026, officers were dispatched to Garwood Avenue for a missing juvenile. The juvenile's family member responded to police headquarters and reported the juvenile missing after a verbal dispute. The juvenile made concerning statements during the dispute, before fleeing from the family members' vehicle. Officers immediately began checking the area for the juvenile. MTPD sought the public’s assistance in locating the juvenile through a public alert broadcast, including social media notifications and a Reverse 911 emergency notification to area residents. Due to the close proximity to our schools and out of an abundance of caution, the police department notified the school district of an active investigation in the area, triggering several schools in a “secure” status, at our request. The juvenile was later located safe without incident at approximately 4:15PM, after receiving a tip from the public. We thank the public for their assistance and apologize to the disruptions it caused this afternoon. Since the incident involves a juvenile, additional details will not be released.

The Monroe Township Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Quincy Jones, as well as the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Quincy passed away after a brave battle with cancer.

Quincy was a friend of our department and a former MTPD dispatcher, serving our community during the years when Monroe Township operated its own dispatch.

We are grateful for his service, friendship, and the memories he shared with so many members of our department.

Rest in peace, Quincy. You will be missed.
